If you're ever unsure about how you need to wire your subwoofers to get the correct ohm load to your amplifier there are a few resources to help. Usually in the owners manual that comes with your subs and your amp they include a detailed ohm load calculator. First step is to determine what subwoofers you have. Common subs come in a dual 2 ohm or a dual 4 ohm version or a single 2 ohm or a single 4 ohm version. Next determine what ohm load your amplifier is rated at. Mono "subwoofer" amps usually are rated x amount of watts at either a 2 or a 1 ohm load. This means you need to purchase the correct subwoofer combination to match your amp. If youre purchasing 2 dual voice coil 4 ohm subs then to maximize an amp you should buy a mono amp stable at 1 ohm. and Dual 2 ohm subs would need a 2 ohm stable amp wired in series parallel. A great resource for a beginner is to go to www.the12volt.com and on the top of the page find the words "subwoofer wiring diagram" and click on it. This will bring you to a drop down menu where you choose the number of drivers "subs" or "speakers" you have and then you choose the impedence in the next drop down menu. Next you'll be provided with multiple wiring options. Good luck and never think you can't do it yourself. Once you learn it's very easy to retain.
Humming from subs? If from inside amp, your experiencing a problem with a driver board. It makes transistors latch on and loads down the transformer, causing light to come on. And vibrations "hum" from transformer.
i would wire the coils of each sub in series which would yield an 8 ohm resistive load per sub - and then wire the subs in parallel to the amp which would bring the resistance back to 4 ohms for a bridged load which will give you max power handling from the subs and draw the full power of the amp at the same time
it is not the way how get most wattage from your amp. If it is rated to drive a 4-ohm load then it should be ok for a 4-ohm load. If it is rated for a 2-ohm load, then you should not be loading less than that impedance. I recommend a 4-ohm load.
Take note: it is the sound quality from the source that makes up all the total quality of your audio system. If you are overdriving the amps it will give distortion too.
There are many factors to consider when it comes to quality of a car sound system- speaker enclosure design, choice of speaker or driver, equalization, etc...
One more thing, try to get at least no voltage drops if you are wiring the subwoofer amp away from the car's battery.

It sounds like you either have too low of an ohm load or the voltage is dropping at the amplifier's power terminal.
With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage is below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is too low.
If the voltage remains near or above 12v, disconnect one speaker and see if it shuts down. If it doesn't, disconnect that speaker and connect the other speaker. If it only shuts down with both speakers connected and the voltage is staying above 12v, the ohm load is probably too low and you'll need to rewire the speakers.
These subs are dual voice coil I'm sure...make sure they are putting a 2 ohm load on the amp total, and also set your gain and frequency setting right. Set the frequency around 85 or 90, make sure the lo pass filter is on. Turn the gain ALL the way down and turn your stereo to the point right before your speakers distort....then slowly increase the gain until the subs are playing at full volume. This should not even be close to all the way up, and the subs should sound accurate and bold. Turning them past this point will cause distortion, in which case you should back off the gain a bit. Distortion causes power to cycle through the amp very rapidly and can cause blown subs and blown fuses.
