I have 2002 Honda Ody and went thru battery hell and cost of replacing new batteries just to find out that the cheap radio CD player was shorting and rappidly draining all the batteries. The solution for me was install a $120.00 Alpine radio and replace all stock speakers with matching Alpine speakers. It will turn your Van into (The Alpine Room ) This stops the battery problem and the quaility of the sound system makes you forget the hell you went thru and also not hate Honda so much for putting the cheapest radio they could find in a $ 32,000 dollar vehicle.

Your A3 should sound a warning beep if you leave your lights on. For this to happen the light switch would be in the side, or dipped position, the key out of the ignition and the drivers door open. If it does not sound the car may not be getting either the door or key signal. To check the key out signal, key the ignition to the on position, turn on the radio (probably only work if a standard radio is still fitted) then key off and remove key, if the radio goes off, its a good sign thats ok. For the door signal make sure opening the drivers door brings on the interior light on, this shows it recognises when its open. Let me know if anymore advise is needed.
As for the mic wiring, as far as I'm aware there were no standard/optional phone kits for this age A3.

this got easy after a while 2 ways, i had friends who would not take the time to spend 8dollars to buy a harness connector for a new cd player and would splice everything together like takeing the red and yellow wires and connecting them all together as one. this drains ur battery unless ur cd player can completly power down by the power button not all do... but keep this in mind on GM cars the 2 wires of the same wires like purple the one with a black stripe is ground they go together stripe on stripe also there is 2 extra wires one is ORANGE and BROWN u dont need these dont even mess with them even if u have a connector block them off THESE TWO COLORS IS FOR FACTORY STEREO IF SO THESE WIRES CAN AND WILL MAKE IT SO U DONT HAVE DASH LIGHTS so always buy a connector ond dont mess with these wires block them off and dont ground them out.

it is possible that the fuse connection has lost its tension, I have seen this more than once, the fix is to take a fuse and carefully thicken the blades with solder. U can check the fuse for continuity by using a test light and seeing if both sides of the fuse light the test light bulb, if not the fuse box contacts are defective.
