yfwd = yarn forward - you bring the yarn to the front of the needles (between them), as for a purl stitch, rather than hold it behind the needles as in a knit stitch.
Sl1K means insert the needle into a stitch as if to knit it, but just move/slip it onto the other needle without knitting it.
