I have toshiba laptop and the 4 usb ports are not working when ever i inset a usb drive it does not see it

This can be an issue with the USB port, or the drivers.
Is the hard drive a Power HDD ? that means it has 2 usb chords one for power and one for data transfer? coz those might not work with laptops, also has it ever worked with the laptop ?

1. Check whether USB/Chip set driver installed properly or not. 2. Check if a USB mouse or Keyboard working other then flash memory or printer. If working then your USB port is disabled in windows registry. 3. To enter the registry, got to Run, type regedit, Enter. 4. In the registry follow the path, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbstor 5. Check the value of the key START. 6. If the value is 0x00000003 (3) then OK. if the vale is 0x00000004 (4), then change it to 3. 7. for changing double click in Start key, a window will pop up. change the value from 4 to 3 then press enter. 8. Close the registry. And check the printer and Flash drive is working or Not.
Note: be careful while working with registry.

u can pull out the DVD drive by clicking the button at the bottom of the laptop...then inset the new one...just it will click in it's place when u inset it...

check in my computer for the drive,
Test usb flash in another Pc,
Manufacturers website for a possible driver.
if still not working then it's faulty,

this problem seems mostly with the usb mouse, the best solution is to plug the flash drive in one port and usb in other and restart the computer generally this always works but if it wont work then the best thing is i also did that, buy a 4-port usb hub and connect it with laptop and connect your usb mouse with this port not directly to your laptop and when you like to use your flash drive plug it in the laptop.
this is working with be perfectly and i hope it will do the same at your side.

When you connect a hard drive and any other USB device to a 4 port hub you have to use the external power supply all the time. You may have fried the power pins on the USB port you used to connect the 4 port hub. If you can get the hard drive to work separately on the USB port, the 4 port hub may no longer be passing power from the laptop.

It is faulty. Something internal is broken. I feel the only way to remedy this is replacement, sorry. I have seen this many times.

Check to see if your flash drive or printer needs drivers in order to work properly. If not, then it could be the drivers for the usb ports or you have faulty usb ports. They're supposed to catch it at the factory, but it happens from time to time on new machines.
