2004 Stratus Rear Speaker Removal

How do you get at the rear speakers? The screws for the speakers are put in from the top, so apparently I have to remove the deck panel?

Thanks, I'll give it a shot tonight and let you know how it went.

Yep, you have to take the side panels on each side off, then the rear cover lifts off. You need to use a stubby screwdriver to get them out, a normal one will hit the glass.

Attempting to remove plastic molding around passenger rear vent motor, having difficulty. any help would be appreciated

This is more difficult than it looks because the rear trim panels must be removed in a certain order as they overlap at their edges.

First remove the rear seat.
Remove the step panel from the floor near the side door opening.
Unbolt the 2 seat belt anchors.
Remove the trim panel below the lift gate (rear hatch opening.) Pry the screw plugs out with a small screwdriver and remove the screws.
Pry out the rear speaker grill using a flat blade screwdiver that has been taped to prevent scratches.
Remove the rear speaker mounting screws. Pull the speaker out and unplug the connector.
Remove the passenger side trim panel mounting screws.
Use a panel clip removal tool and pry the clips that hold the trim panel then lift the panel away.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Cant seem to axcess the rear speaker screws to replace them.

Are you looking from the trunk to the top of the rear deck? You are correct though in most factory installed audio systems, the size and quality of the speakers is unique and low quality. Generally any aftermarket speakers you buy will have to be bolted using holes that you drill in the deck. Also most car audio place will cut the deck with a saw in order to enlarge the holes for better sound. You may want to consider using POP rivets as fasteners for the new speakers because getting under the glass to use screws can be tough.

What are the colors of the speaker wires in a dodge stratus 1997 coming from the wire harness of the car itself

The easiest way is to check the speakers themselves as manufacturers tend to change colors of speakers at a whim. Usualy though you will have 8 wires (4 front & 4 rear) paired in colours (white goes with white+black stripe(stripe is possative on speaker))etc.
Not knowing the cars electrics I can't be more specific.(I live in UK so don't know that much about U.S. cars)

I need to replace a rear speaker. How do I remove the old one?

Most time the rear speaker (package self) is held in by a metal spring clip over a black carboard jute felt filled enclosure, unclip this retainner and speaker comes right out.
