To do that you must install Nokia PC Suite to your PC. Must have a USB cable to connect the phone to the PC. Charge the battery fully. Backup your data including the contacts and msgs etc. Connect to the PC after running PC Suite. In that you find an icon for updating. When clicked, it will down load Nokia Software Updater. Run NSU and then follow the instructions. Your phone will reboot once. When it comes on, it will be new phone. And if it does not due to a glitch in the internet connection, then you will have to throw it away as even Nokia will not be able to repair it. It has happened to my Nokia E61i.
The alternative is to get it done from Nokia Care who download the complete SW before commencing the update. Thus the whole firmware is rewritten and the viruses etc get removed automatically. Not so when you do it yourself.
SO, even if you have to pay a little to Nokia Care, it is worth the trouble.
