I want to transfer my songs from my F20 Gigabeat to my new iPod 120 Classic and it wont do it.My laptop is running on Vista premium but I can run the Gigabeat program in administrator mode (as my old gigabeat doesn't run on Vista). The itunes program has given me some ideas in regards to WMA-AA issues but I still cant resolve them.
Cheers

Ggiabeat has file encryption for all files copied to it. Whether you own the copyright or not there is no reverse encrytpion process available. It is pretty complex ISO secure encryption - dont expect an internet crack out anytime soon.....
The only way to get the songs off is to play them and record them to another device via the headphone socket. Tedious at best.
Sorry it ain't better news but there seems to be no convertor out there.. legal or non-legal ....
Hi there
If you use a torrent client there is a program called "Audiograbber" which will convert the files for you, alternatively there is another program called "total video converter" don't be put off by the name of the software as it converts just about all audio formats too.
If you haven't got a torrent client download Utorrent and install it, you will be able to get both the converter programs from torrentpond
Good luck
You first import all files into Itune, and then export them into the Ipod.
I was not kidding, you just need to import MP3 or WMA into Itunes, then export them to IPOD, ssimple as that, read below.

iTunes for Windows: How to import WMA's & MP3's
To transfer folders from a gigabeat to a computer, just use copy and paste, access Gigabeat from my documents. There is no need to convert anything, Gigabeat plays Wma and mp3.
Then import MP3s into Itunes, see

To get the stuff off your Toshiba which probably is SAT encrypted do this:
Just note that for some reason, it runs at usb 1.x speeds, so beIn the normal gigabeat environment (not rockbox), goto Settings>Pc Connections
Tell it to use windows media player.
Then, plug the gigabeat into the cradle with little switch set to "usb"
on the side of the cradle. Plug in power cord and usb cable to comp,
then turn on your gigabeat.Gigabeat should come up in windows explorer.
* If it can't find driver, make sure you have gigabeat room installed
and set gigabeat to use gigabeat room first. Windows should then
install the driver for it. Then, go back to settings and tell it to use
media player. Windows should automatically detect the gigabeat now.Navigate to the mdusic folder on your gigabeat and begin copying files.
You should notice that the music is in normal .wav format. Copy from
here.
patient. Also note that this does not work unless you're using windows
explorer. Ugh
Thats all! This info is also available on the rock box website. I would
highly recommend putting rockbox onto your gigabeat after you pull all
your files off your gigabeat.

I used an excellent program to tranafer all my DRM protected WMA files to MP3 files for my new iPod. It is called Tunebite and it can be found here.
You can use a MP3 convereter software then after that you can now transfer the music to it...
Connecting the X60 to a computer and transferring files is a breeze. After installing Toshiba's Gigabeat Room software you are presented with a simple interface that links CD ripping and file transfer together. It's so simple even the most hopeless technophobe should find transferring their music easy. The software really is basic; this isn't a fully featured media player like iTunes or Windows Media Player. Files can be transferred using the USB 2.0 cable provided and this doubles as a charger. Toshiba also include an AC adaptor which is useful if you want to listen to your music at the same time as charging the battery. The battery takes about three hours to charge, and in our tests managed to last for a disappointing 12 hours. It's also possible to use the X60 as a hard drive, by simply hooking up the USB cable and dragging your files across. Support for transferring photos from digital cameras is provided, but annoyingly only with the purchase of the Gigabeat dock.))))))))))))))))))))))))
There is a USB cable to connect the unit to your computer so you can transfer files to and fro; the Gigabeat has a mini USB socket.
When connected to a computer via the USB port, the Gigabeat will also use the computer's power to recharge its battery, which is helpful. You could presumably also use any other type of USB charger, as well as its regular power charger.
There is also a cradle in which you can place the Gigabeat. The cradle connects the unit to both a power supply and USB connection, and provides a line out and a second USB port to be used when transferring data from a camera or other device. This second USB port is strangely limited to only the 1.1 specification and speed, whereas the main port supports the faster 2.0 spec.
In addition to the controls on the front of the unit, there is a wired remote which can be plugged into the speaker output of the unit, with your headphones then being plugged into the wired remote. This is convenient if you are carrying your Gigabeat in a pouch such that its controls aren't easily accessed.
)))))))))))))))))Music is transferred to the Gigabeat either through Toshiba's own program (Gigabeat Room) or through Windows Media Player (version 10 required).
The Gigabeat software is clumsy and difficult to understand and imposes their view of the best way to manage your software. It seems from a comment in the manual that it may convert all files (mp3 and wav) into wma format; a process which almost certainly embodies some loss of quality as part of the converting, but Toshiba themselves don't think this is actually what occurs. However, because WMA format is usually better quality than MP3, you should perhaps, whenever you have the choice, buy and create music files in WMA rather than MP3 format.
Transferring MP3 files was a slow process, probably due to the conversion occurring at the same time.
The songs on your f20 are wma they need to be converted.

Usually answered in minutes!
I have all the software to run my iPod and it works fine I just cant transfer/convert my gigabeat WMA files into AA or MP3 format.
Anyone send me a link for a good free music file converter and tell me how to transfer the songs from the gigabeat to the computer (with the Vista -Gigabeat issue) Can run gigabeat room in administrator mode but I dont know how to do the transferring
Right, well it seems that you cant transfer folders from a gigabeat to a computer at all using gigabeat room or WMP due to a couple of things 1) Files when transferred to the Gigabeat in the firstplace are then encrypted and not able to be moved again (please some one dispel this!!) 2)Gigabeat uses WMP 10 and Vista operates WMP 11 and you cant switch back without major hassles.
Have read the user manual for Gigabeat and it pretty much says you cant burn cd's from gigabeat, so doing it the hard way wont work either, anymore suggestions?
Cheers
I used an older 'puter with XP an WMP 10 and was able to transfer the music files from my gigabeat to the 'puter but was still unable to convert them to MP3/AAC due to encryption and hence unable to transfer them to my iPod. I think it is time to give up doing it electronically and just do it manually using the CD's to load them onto my iPod-one problem I am in the UK and the CD's are back home in Australia!!! (or download them off the net for free)
