this will automatically search for and find the correct driver
you will have to update every driver individually once you update you
might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated
also at cnet

on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for
IE: motherboard name sound drivers
you might have to try a few times to get it right
free program, paid update available

If the port is ok ie you can see and use other devices then you should check out the external drive on another computer to see if it isn't the problem. Usually what happens is the usb interface on the enclosure goes bad and the computer will either not detect it or it won;t access it. The drive inside the case is a standard drive type so the fix is simply to take the drive out and put it into a new enclosure. You can buy these for $10 and up. The hard part about switching is usually getting the old enclosure apart. The drive is held in by 2-4 screws. Some computer shops will charge and some wont if you buy the enclosure form them. It is something you can do yourself and there are videos and pictorial instructions online to show how this works.
Only once have I ever heard of a actual back drive, it is always a usb interface issue that is the actual problem.
