2004 VW Touran 1st, 3rd and 5th difficult to engage

When gears could not be selected while running, I replaced flywheel clutch and pressure plate on 2004 VW Touran now 1st, 3rd and 5th gear (grinding on fifth) difficult to engage. Neutral is now sitting halfway between where neutral used to be and these 3 gears. Any ideas on how to fix this. This is a 1.9 TDI motor AVQ with 6-speed manual gearbox (02S I think) The car is drivng well though just the grinding in 5th and the new position is unnerving

The problem has been solved: first we released the cable linkages by following this example: Volkswagen Group: Shift Linkage Adjustment for year models 2000-2010 (search on you tube) this still did not work as well as we'd liked, so we took the nut off the chrome part (where the linkage rotates on) lifted the mechanism off the bolt and rotated one spline in the required direction. The gears work like butter now.

yes. you have to check the plastic/rubber moulding at the linkages under the hood. maybe one of them is missing (fallen out because of wear)

SOURCE: VW GOLF 1.4 1999 S. Gearbox makes whining sound at idle

No good news on this one I think
Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

SOURCE: my ford focus tdi 2003 cant select 1st,3rd or 5th gears.

Car is in limp in mode unless you have the tools to work on automatic transmission you will need to take it to a transmission shop. Of course you can check oil level but I suspect you have other issues.

I have a 1991 chevy K1500 and we replaced the fly wheel and now it wont go into gear.. HELP!

the most common fault is what you have stated
clutch plate in back to front
the clutch plate hub hits on the flywheel bolt heads and the plate is still driven making 1st and reverse gears difficult to select without crunching them

My clutch on my 1985 Toyota truck has these problems the gears are hard to engage when truck warms up and now when I Release the clutch it moves less then a half an inch and the truck wants to take off can...

I suspect your clutch and pressure plate needs to be replaced, when you depress your pedal to disengage your transmission from your flywheel the pressure plate is not engaging enough to seperate the two it still has a little contact on your flywheel so it is going to be difficult to change gears and your relief is going to be shorter. If you change it out always remember buy a clutch kit with a clutch plate and pressure plate and pilot bushing and slave cylinder all in one kit.Always remove your flywheel and get it resurfaced that is a must ,the flywheels surface will become uneven over time and minimize your surface area on your disc,by getting it resurfaced it will assure your disc has 100% of the flywheel surface for hook up and when you depress your clutch it will clear your flywheel good luck

Problems selecting 1st gear peugeot 106 1.1 zest

If the clutch is a problem you will have difficulty selecting 1st only as the gears would be spinning from the engine revs.. I would say that the front input shaft (clutch shaft) bearing is failing allowing miss alignment of the synchros and not allowing proper engagement of the gears synchro rings. It means removal and repair to the gear box so the clutch can be inspected while the box is out.

2002 celica GTS Transmission makes noise when shifting souns like gears grind although clutch is pressed all the way down. Do not see where to check tranny fluid. I replacing the clutch difficult on this...

There may be several reasons for this. 1st, low transmission fluid levels can cause the gears to grind while shifting due to lack of lubrication. I would suggest checking the fluid level, there is a plug located on the side, in about the middle of the transmission which when removed should slowly seep oil from it. If it doesn't then you will need to add the recommended transmission fluid.
2nd, a maladjusted clutch can cause the same problem. Even though you have the clutch pedal to the floor, the clutch pressure plate may not be completely disengaging from the flywheel. This will cause pressure on the gears and synchronizers while trying to shift. I suggest having the clutch adjusted by a mechanic if you have never performed this function yourself. An inproper adjustment can severely shorten the life of the clutch.
The 3rd option may be a warn clutch component like the slave cylinder if equipped, the throwout bearing or even the pressure plate itself.
A visual inspection can be made of the clutch by removing the inspection plate from the bottom of the bell housing to view the flywheel and clutch. With someone depressing the clutch you should be able to see the clutch moving off the flywheel.

Sounds as if you may be having a problem with the clutch. It could be that the clutch plate is worn out and no longer disengages from the flywheel completely.

CLUTCH JUDDER IN 1ST GEAR WHEN START OFF THEN OK 2004 SUBARU 2.0L WRX

A note to the first answer, if the clutch chatters in first gear that is indicative of a bad pressure plate or broke clutch springs, if it is not removed and repaired soon the clutch will shatter and damage the flywheel and possibly the input shaft and the the pilot bearing which could damage the transmission. There is also a possibility of the spring coming out of the clutch plate and wedging between the flywheel and pressure or clutch plate and causing severe damage to the internal parts just mentioned.

Sounds like oil on the clutch plate lining, burned or glazed facings. Could be worn or loose engine or transmission mounts. Sometimes it is worn splines on clutch plat hub or a warped pressure plate or flywheel.
