I have a Covington-Hampton Bay 54" ceiling fan, with remote. The light goes on and off by itself and the fan is always on thermostat. I would like to use the light manually and turn the fan on and off manually. Any suggestions.

There is a 4 position (dip) switch on both the fan housing and the remote. Make sure these switches are set exactly the same and the remote will control the light and fan separately. If not, the remote may be getting interference on the preset frequency - try CHANGING the dip switches to a different setting and the remote should work.

go to Home Depot, not only do they have replacements, but they can order for you what you need. Hampton Bay is the Home Depot brand.

This is a universal suggestion, not specifically for your model. There should be a small switch just under the blades ... one position is for summer the other for winter. Move the switch up or down to change the direction of rotation.

Do you want to sell your Covington Ceiling fans? I may be interested in purchasing them. If you live in Atlanta, I could remove the old ceiling fans and install your new ones if you need.
