Probably the front struts your sway bar links can cause the same noise if they are failing but you should have heard or felt somthing while turning regardless of bumps if the sway bar links were bad. Like the other people said start with the struts.

SOURCE: I have a 2006 chevy

On my cobalt (same platform) there is a known bad engine mount that clunks (like you have bad shocks) when you go over bumps.
If you look under the car from the front, you can see its a circle, (supposed to be ) filled with a rubber/composite bushing. They crack and this causes the banging.
It is supposed to look like this...
1a7e2c9.jpg
However, the rubber breaks off and your engine is flopping around.
This part needs a press to press out the old piece, so a mechanic would be the best repairman for the job.

The scraping noise is a different problem. I would suggest CV joints, but being a 2006, they shouldnt be bad unless you tow, or accelerate heavily.
I would lean toward a bad wheel bearing with the symptoms you are describing - also a job that requires a press.
You're in for quite a bill!
Figure $250 each wheel bearing and another 100 or so to fix the mount.
Dealership would be 2x that.
Good Luck!!

SOURCE: 06 dodge charger rt w 5.7 hemi engine has clunk in front end

The LX platform consists of the 300, charger and magnum.

They will all have front end noise. It's just a matter of time. This appears to be a poor design and should be recalled.

The front end should be replaced with energy suspension bushings and greasable ball joints.

The front end needs to be inspected, but here are the usual suspects. Most to least

1. Stabilizer bushings to frame. Rattle and bump sound. Not too expensive.
2. Tension struts - radius arm as some may say. Makes a poping noise and moans when driving and turning.
3. Stabilizer end links if loose to touch. Noise over bumps only.
4. Tie rods. Primarily outer. If you can turn them by hand they need changing. These make noise when braking and turning. Inner is more pronounced when steering. May cause road wander.
5. Upper and lower control arm bushings. Creak!
6. Ball Joints. These sound like an orchestra when going up a driveway. The most expensive fix on these cars. Up to 1800.00 dealer cost. They do not press out the old joints. They use a new knuckle.
7. Steering rack... another expensive fix. Moans and hisses.

SOURCE: clunk noise from front left suspension

My guess is a strut bushing/bearing, but have your front end checked out by good shop to make sure it isn't something else more dangerous.

SOURCE: Clunking noise coming from upper passenger side when I hit a bump.

If you aren't afraid of jacking up the vehicle, you can test to see where the problem is coming from. Jack the vehicle up by the pinch well (most newer cars have grooves cut out or that can be popped out behind the front wheels). When the wheel is in the air, try moving it side to side, then up and down. Excessive side to side movement indicates a tie rod end, up and down indicates a ball joint, and all around indicates a wheel bearing which would also be a cause for the clicking sound you are hearing.

Most auto shops will check this for you free of charge when you get an oil change, since they're trying to sell you things anyway.

Knocking Noise from Front End Toyota Corolla 2004

Ensure the wheel nuts and Axle nuts are properly torqued to the specification. Lift up the front wheels, place supports under the car and do the following:
- Sit if front of right wheel, slightly move it right and left and feel any abnormal noise if coming out of it. If click-click or Tuck-Tuck sound is observed it could be due to the excessive play in the tie rod end, rack end, ball joint wheel bearing or U joint. Next hold the Tire with your one hand at the top and with other hand at the bottom. Shake the Tire inside out and feel any noise or play. If play is observed, it could be the worn out ball joint or the wheel bearing. Now hit the Tire at the top with rubber hammer and observe any rattling noise coming from near the center of the wheel. If you could listen to the extra noise it could be due to the dried up caliper pins. Grease the pins with graphite grease. If all is found fine, similarly check the left wheel and repair as necessary.

I need help with my 1994 pontaic grand am. I just bought the car and it has a terrible clunking noise in the front mostly when I turn the wheel. What could this be? Could it be tie rod, cv joints, shocks or...

Jack up the wheel and see if it has play up and down and left and right. Have someone watch inboard as you move it. A bad cluck will usually show itself.
