Tell you what, try the new High defenition audio drivers from Realtek. it's available on their homepage. That's been a big problem, due to the lack of information (can you beleve that!) from Realtek. HD drivers are preparation for windows of as the name sais High Defenition sound. After that normaly windows (XP) gets everything done by itself.

Scroll down to Sound: RealTek Codec Sound on board driver.
Create a folder on your desktop & name it RealTek. Download the file named: realtek.zip into the RealTek folder. When finished open the folder & uncompress the .zip file. You may need the program WinZip to uncompress the file. If you need WinZip you can download the trial version for free at this next link;
http://download.cnet.com/WinZip/3000-2250_4-10003164.html
Uncompress the file into your RealTek folder. Open the folder & find the setup.exe file & run it.
If this fails to install double check your bios settings. Use the manual to help you. Make sure the bios setting for AC97 is set to [Enable] or to [Auto]. Failure to set this bios feature will cause windows to prompt you for the codec software.
You can post here if you still have problems.

SOURCE: How to install audio driver for P4S5A DX+ ?
Hello,
According to the Elite site your audio driver is:
C-Media CMI973x/9761A Audio Driver
The link to the download page is:
P4S5A/DX+ Downloads
The audio driver is at the bottom. Click on a download server closest to you. The downloaded file is a .zip file. You can Save it to your desktop, but then must extract it to it's full size and format. (.exe file) Once extracted you can run (double-click) the file to install the driver on your system.

Your board has Intel G31 and ICH7 chipsets, Socket 775 and, Via VT1708B(for sound). This is ECS's link for downloads, there is a ver 7.0 also, I picked ver 1.0 and it shows a Via high def driver:

You can also try Via here:

This should get you your driver. If you are having other problems with the sound let me know.
Dave
Note:The board does appear to have support from Windows 7
