No usually you just use an Allen Wrench to remove the mirror but if it's an electric mirror you will also need to cut the wires and re-wire them up by using **** connectors and crimping them down with wire cutters.
You can buy these connectors at any Auto Parts store or even a Wal Mart they look like little round barrows.

FIRST U MUST REMOVE THE MIRROR.BE CAREFULL THEY TEND TO CRACK.THEN UNBOLT THE 2 TORX N8 .NO 8 AT THE ILLUSTRATION.REMOVE THE COVER GENTLY UPWARDS.UNCLIP THE INDICATOR PLUG WITH THE COVER OUT U MUST SEE ONE MORE TORX NO8 UNBOLT AND REPLACE THE INDICATOR.REPEAT THE PROCEDURE BACKWARDS TO ASSEMBLE THE MIRROR.CLICK IF U FIND THIS HELPULL.LET ME KNOW IF U NEED MORE INFO...GOOD LUCK!!

get a screwdriver in behind the glass and gently lever the old glass out, it just clips in with a spring clip

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can remove the bolts securing the mirror to the door.

Hi, It's a real bugger. You have to remove the mirror glass to access the screws (tor-x) that secure the cover running the risk of breaking the mirror. It is a ridiculous process, but can be done if you are patient.

I changed mine a few years ago (2005 Sharan). Price of the LED part was ~£20 from the main dealer. Biggest problem was taking the mirror unit apart. I spent ages removing the mirror then seperating the parts. Later some ne'r-do-well knocked into the mirror on a bike, folding it towards the front of the car, and it all just came apart in such a way as to make changing the indicator easy!

you may have a loose connection somewhere,if you plug into a diagnostic reader it will tell you where problem is.

Have you tried taking off the cover to see if the indicator cover is part of the entire wing mirror cover. I think it might all be part of the same cover. The Haynes manual may be able to help more.

under the mirror there should be a 1 1/2 slot door under mirror that looks like a flat lid this will be flush with mirror moulding where it looks like a quarter can turn it
this is the light access panel the detachment screw is threw this panel to take off mirror then you can access the bulb
