Internet crashes my htc Smart... Help?

It's pretty much what the title says. Every time I try to access the internet I get, "Oops. A system error has occurred..." I've checked the wireless settings and everything looks normal. Is there anything else I can do?

The first time you use your device, the Connection Setup displays a notification message to inform you that it will automatically configure your device's data connections, such as 3G/GPRS/EDGE, WAP, and MMS.

  1. On the notification message, select Yes.
  2. If your SIM card supports multiple network operator profiles, the next message displays all network profile choices. Select the profile you want to use, then select OK. The Connection Setup configures your device's data connection settings.
  3. After the Connection Setup completes configuration, tap Restart. Tip: To choose the network operator manually, select Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connection Setup The GPRS/3G settings are preconfigured on your device when you applied for this service with your wireless network provider. If you need to add another GPRS/3G connection:
  4. Tap Start > Settings > Connections tab> Connections
  5. Under My ISP, tap Add a new modem connection
  6. On the Make New Connection screen, enter a name for the connection, select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) on the Select a modem list, then tap Next
  7. Enter the Access point name, then tap Next. You may obtain the access point name from your wireless service provider.
  8. When prompted, enter the user name and password. (Check with your wireless service provider if a user name and password are required to connect.)
  9. Tap Finish

Seems like your phone is functioning correctly.

You have disabled wi-fi so it is asking whether you wish to use Phone Data Connection instead. (Standard Practice when trying to access data services)

What you need to do is un-tick the option in options Use only 2g networks. (3g is the mobile data service) That should then allow you to access Mobile Data. (3g)

Also enable data enabled

I want to connect my HTC Smart as a modem to my computer

Hi, You can use the Below steps to connect you HTC cell phone to the internet.

How to Use an HTC USB for the Internet

HTC is one of the leading cell phone manufacturers of today. They specialize in the design and production of smart phone models such as the Hero and Droid Eris. Along with the myriad of functions that their handsets can perform, you can use an HTC smart phone as a modem to access the Internet. Although this can be done with numerous HTC phones, this walk-through will use the HTC Hero as an example.

Things You'll Need:

* Computer
* HTC cell phone
* USB cable (included with phone)

Instructions

Connect the proper end of the USB cable to your phone and the other end to your computer.

Press the HOME button on your phone and navigate to the MENU.

Tap "Settings" on the touch screen and enter the "Wireless Controls" section.

Tap the check box for "Mobile network sharing." Exit the menu.

Locate the available network on your computer and connect to it.

Tips & Warnings

*

You can locate the network on your computer by double clicking the icon with two monitors at the bottom right of the taskbar.

Hope that helped.
