Nokia E71GPS map jam

If I have no Internet connection in my phone and when I try to see my GPS location on the map, the loading of the map stops to 60 % and the clock on the screen stops. All function buttons do not work.
The situation goes away only by removing the battery out of the machine.

Software error?

Waiting for GPS comes up when I try to get directions, it never loads

what are you using for gps? ovi maps? garmin? google maps?

i suggest installing google maps to see if your gps is working alright.

then check in phone settings to ensure that gps positioning method is enabled for 'built-in gps' and 'assisted gps', thereafter check positioning server is set to 'supl.nokia.com'.

normal lock time is around 5-30seconds with E71 GPS with A-GPS on; anything more than that i'd attribute it to a faulty built-in gps unit.

let me know if it works.

How can i use gps in my phone?

When you run OVI Maps on the 5230, the GPS will be activated. You'll have to wait till the GPS receives signals from at least 4 satellites to get a "fix" or "lock" This can take some time depending on where you are. Using A-GPS is an advantage for a faster fix. Read the English manual on page 95 about GPS.http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/5230/guides

If you want to use navigation on your nokia 5230 then you need some setting that is neccessary for the navigation on you phone. It is stated as first of all you need to set the internet on your phone through your operator and then do the following setting on your phone
1. Go to the Menu.
2. Select Menu > Maps.
3. Select Options > Tools > Settings > Internet

Just set the following setting in your navigation application

* Go online at start-up: Please set the device to open an internet connection when you open Maps.
* Default access point or Network destination: Select the access point to be used when connecting to the internet.
* Roaming warning: Set the device to notify you when registering to a network other than your home network.

I want to use the gps and navigator on my nokia 5800 can you please help

The Nokia 5800 has a built-in GPS satellite navigation receiver, which can tell you where you are anywhere on the planet. The 5800 also has cell-tower-positioning technology, which finds your location using the position of the nearest phone network mast if a satellite signal is unavailable. GPS is more accurate but can take a while (from 10 seconds to a few minutes, depending on how obstructed the sky is) to find your position ('Assisted GPS' is also present, to download the expected GPS satellite positions from the Internet and help speed up your fix.)
The 5800 also has a built-in mapping application called Nokia Maps, which shows you your location on a street map, tells you exactly how to get to another location by driving or walking, and can give details of nearby amenities such as shops, fuel stations, museums, etc. Nokia Maps uses both GPS and cell tower positioning to tell you where you are: the latter gives an instant rough position, while GPS data is used after the phone has locked onto enough satellite signals calculate its position. You'll know the phone is locked onto a satelite as the lock indicator at the bottom of the screen will turn green.

Other phone applications can also use the GPS receiver if required. For example the camera application can optionally "geotag" photos with your current location using the GPS receiver to work out where you are (click here to see our camera tutorial and find out more about geotagging). If you switch to the standby or menu screens while an application is using the GPS receiver, you'll see a little satellite icon in the top right corner of the screen to indicate that GPS is active.

How does the 5800's GPS work? Like all satellite navigation systems, the 5800 receives signals from many different GPS satellites in the sky, and calculates your position based on those signals, using a combination of triangulation, signal delay calculation and a lot of very heavy maths that you really don't want to know about.

Important Note: Satellite signals cannot penetrate buildings, so GPS satellite signals will be difficult or impossible to receive if you are indoors and away from windows. If you want to speed up the process of GPS showing your location, take the phone outside or place the phone next to a large window with a good view of the sky.

The 5800's GPS aerial is inside the top left side of the phone. If you want to get a good GPS lock make sure this part of the phone is uncovered

I want to know how to use the GPS

what part of the gps system do you want to use

nokia maps?
gps data?
nokia sports tracker?
google maps?

all these apps use gps but to get the most out of them you need internet on your phone but they are not neccersary but having it makes your expriance so much better

firstly go outside and go to gps data and it should search for satalights if you go to posistioning then click options then satelight status this will show the signal and lock of satelights
the bars shows the signal quality the more of the bar better signal but when they become solid coloured in that means that the phone has locked to the satelight

once the phone connects to several staelights then under positioning your posistional information is given

then you can go to the sevreal maps aplications

all the maps apps work better when you are moving they are not accurate when you are not moving

nokia maps is free for a year then you have to pay
google maps is free
both of these are navigation apps

sports tracker is a app that tracks your movements on a map which is pritty cool

using the apps is pritty simple and you learn to use it quickly

aalso the more you use the gps the quicker the gps finds your location the first time will take a minuite or so

NOKIA 5800 GPS PROBLEM

Hi all I have a solution for fixing the internal GPS for the Nokia 5800. It will work as long as you leave the power on. If the phone is turned off you will have to repeat this very simple process. 1) Select Applications, and then open the application called, Location. 2) Select positioning. 3) Select positioning methods. 4) Tick Integrated GPS and Assisted GPS. 4) Select positioning server and Select automatic. Select access point and select. Then select gps data. Select options and select satellite status. When you have a satellite lock. Repeat 1), 2) 3) Then select Integrated GPS (ONLY), untick Assisted GPS.
What you have basically done here is lock onto the satellites through GPRS (phones internet). Then disconnected from the internet and still get a lock on the satellites just by using Integrated GPS. Hope this helps someone and someone can take this concept to get a better understanding of what and why this is happening. Maybe some wizard can create a phone patch.
Cheers to all, Colin Nelson, Kille, Scotland.

GPS Use

Hye! here's how you can take care of this issue: Dowload google maps from the web (for windows mobile) & install it on your diamond. In order to use GPS on this phone, your internet/gprs connection must be functional; without netwrok connectivity you cant use GPS on this device as it does not have the map interface on its chip (& cant be loaded later too). It just has a light GPS transceiver which in presence of a mapping software (such as google maps) can show your position on the globe & in some countires can also navigate you. After installing google maps, make sure your internet connectivity is on and then work with google maps 'USE GPS' & 'My location' or 'Navigate' functions ... enjoy!
