Not sure about getting it running again, but next to the eject button (usually on the right hand side) there is a little hole. Take a paper clip and bend it into a point and stick the paperclip into the hole until you feel it give a little resistance. You should then push in a little and the drive will manually open. Hope this helps.
Sometimes this can be caused by settings or any hardware changes, but if you haven't changed anything probably not. I have had mine act like yours, I ended up installing a new DVD player.
