Could you give more information about what drive you replaced and what was the orginal drive.

I replaced the spare drive, which was named E Drive. The E has now become the DVD and the D was the E...does that make sense, it's beginning to confuse me. LOL

Hi there

I have an 80GB C Drive and a 10 GB E drive, i replaced the small one with a 40GB from my old computer. All i wanted to do was format it to keep pics n stuff on, but it's a problem for some reason. I've done this before with my first computer and had no problems with that at all, i just don't understand why i am now.

Cannot format my optiplex 760 partition

Hi.

Because you are unable to format or delete the partition then I'm afraid that this is a strong indication that you need to replace the hard drive, this is probably due to bad sectors and clusters that the drive cannot read or write to.

Regards.

I replaced my HDD since the old one is no longer working but there are files in my old HDD that I want to recover how will I do that. I tried to connect it to my PC but i was prompted to format the disk...

This is one of those things you would have to go to a tech center to get fixed. BUT, a trick I've found that works sometimes, is to put the drive in an External Hard Drive Enclosure - Sometimes it will let you read and transfer the data on the drive you put in. You can pick up one of these at a tech support place too.

I can't format my pen drive how can I format my pen drive

Hi,
there may be a small sliding switch that could be set to "Protect" ie the drive is protected from formatting, or deleting or even adding files.
Change the position and then re-insert the drive into your computers USB port. Go to My Computer, right click the pen drive and select "Format"
FAT32 format will give you a drive that is readable and compatible with Windows 95, Win98, Win2000, XP etc.
You can format in NTFS format but it will only be readable by Win2000,XP or Vista or Win7.
Cheers,
Steve

My machine died so I purchased a replacement and swapped in my old harddrive. All appears ok... I can see all the files on the new "F" drive. I can go to doc setting see my desktop but question is how do I...

You Cannot, ALL programs MUST be installed to the drive thats the working one, you cannot ADD a drive and use the software, as the Windows install, is NOT on that drive, it is on the New drive. so the programs, cannot work, as there details are NOT in the existing registry. You MUST reinstall every program you wish to use to the C: drive into the Programs directory. That will "Register" them with Windows.

I installed the Hitachi 500GB hard drive in my computer running Windows Vista. The device manager recognizes the drive, but I cannot figure out how to format it to store data

If you added the HDD, you will need to open Disk Management (Control Panel, Administrative tools, Computer Management, Disk Management)
The added drive should be listed as disk 1, right click it and INITIALIZE the drive, then format it, then it will be assigned a drive letter and be accessable

How to format a verbatim Store "n" Go part# 95401? I am looking for the software for reformatting it and can not find it.

  1. If you’ve used the device before, make sure you’ve gotteneverything off of the drive you need. You’ll be reformatting it. (Theapplication may have an option that allows you to keep the data – Idon’t remember – but better safe than sorry.)
  2. Plug in the drive – the U3 launchpad will load. You can close theU3 tour program and whatever main window pops up if you like, but leavethe U3 launchpad icon in the system tray enabled (i.e. don’t exit thelaunchpad application entirely).
  3. Download SanDisk’s U3 Launchpad Removal Tool (opens in new window) – as the site says, make sure the USB device is plugged in and Launchpad is still running.
  4. Run the tool, and choose the option which completely removes U3 and formats the drive.
Voilà, you now have a regular old USB drive which you can break in any way you want.
(NOTE: If the SanDisk tool above doesn’t work for you, you might try the uninstall tool from u3.com – I had no trouble with the SanDisk tool, but I can only speak for myself!)

How to upgrde sony pcv-rx470ds desk top hard drive; what is the max gb?

Looks like this unit is a couple of years old by the specs.
160 to 200 GB would ba a good size to install in the unit.
It is easy to replace the hard drive. Just remove the old one and install the new by reversing the procedure. Just make sure that the jumper is set to master( which is how the new ones come jumpered)

    Windows xp will not install

The times I have had this happen, it was a bad hard drive.
Even though you said you just replaced it, it could be a defective unit.
The problem happens when it cannot write the MBR (Master Boot Record) and it begins the format all over again. Or it hit a dead spot in the disk, and starts over.
I've had it happen at least 20 times (I'm a Sys Admin for a company).
Depending on the size of the drive, you may want to experiment by creating a smaller partition (like 10GB) and see what it does. If it blows up on a smaller partition, it is the MBR, if it works, it's a dead spot elsewhere on the disk.

1.5GB of RAM is plenty, unless you are doing hardcore gaming, or HD number crunching.
Yes, the 2400 is an older unit, but they are workhorses, and seem to run forever. (My daughter has one that is 7 years old, and it still runs every day).
