Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Kodak EasyShare C143 Digital Camera formatting

Check your card isn't set to write protect then try re-formatting again in the camera, if it still doesn't work, try another card. The card you're using could be faulty.

When I turn on the camera I get the message "memory card is protected (reset switch on memory card). What does this mean? I have a Kodak Easy Share Z740. What do I need to do?

Remove the memory card from the camera, look along the one edge and look for a tiny switch, slide it towards the contacts to unlock the card. the switch in the furthest position from the contacts is in the locked position, Now if for some reason the card is in the unlock position, slide it back and forth to reset the card.

When camera is turned on it says memory card is

If you're using an SD card, it doesn't have a reset switch. It does have a switch to lock (protect) and unlock the card. It should be in the unlocked position.
