I have a CF-30 toughbook and my screen lights up for about 4 seconds and then goes dark everytime I open the the lid. I can see the screen is still on but not lit up, it will relight if I close the screen and then reopen it. What could be the cause?

It could be loose wiring.

1. Take the screen bezel and LCD board off and reseat all the connections. In other words, unplug and plug it in again.

How to: CF-30 toughbook LCD replacement video

2. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you must replace the LCD inverter.

    Cf-30 disable touchscreen

    On all Panasonic Toughbook Notebooks,
you must get into the BIOS by pressing
the F2 Function key when you turn on the
Toughbook as it is booting. Press F2 repeatedly.
This must be done in the 1-2 seconds before
Windows starts to load. Then you will see
Touchscreen usually on the 2nd page with the
word "Enable". Simply select enable and press
"Enter" and the choice between enable and disable
will appear. Then select "Disable" with the cursor
and then press Enter. Finally you need to
"Save and Exit" the changes in the BIOS.
That is it. Good Luck to you.

    Toughbook LCD is Dark.

On all Panasonic Toughbooks, any model pre-2008/2009 would have the older LCD screen with an "inverter". The new screens are called LED because there is no inverter.
The inverter is like the "ballast" on a fluorescent tube lighting fixture. The tube could be good but if the ballast is blown then the tube will not "light-up". This is also true of the inverter.
You can also tell when the inverter is about to burn-out when you first start your toughbook in the morning and the screen is initially "red" and then turns white after the unit warms-up for a few minutes.
    Good Luck to you.
