Garmin iQue 3600 GPS Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
The backlight quit working
I have the same problem. I was wondering how you go this resolved. I am able to bring back the backlight by pressing the base of the unit where the buttons are, below the screen. It seems to fix it until you shut it down again.

Hello,
If your GPS works with the AC cord plugged in but the battery will not charge then one of two things has happened. Since it works with the cord plugged in it is not the cord. Did you get a cheap battery to replace the one that was bad? Sometimes them cheap batteries don't work the way they should. The other thing it more than likely is the charging unit inside your GPS. When the charging unit goes bad the battery never receives the charge. Your GPS should charge as soon as you plug it in. Either send this to Garmin for a fix or buy a new one. If it's less than a year old I urge you to contact Garmin for a manufacture warranty repair free of charge to you. Here is their web address.

I haven't used my Garmin
Hi,
since you haven't used your Garmin ique 3600 for a long time, then you will needing a new battery because the battery on it must have been flat and dead.
You can order for a replacement battery at batteryship.com
To install a Garmin iQue 3600 battery follow these installation instructions below:
Begin by backing up all your data...then proceed with the following:
1. Remove the four screws in the back of the case and set them aside.
The top two screws can be accessed by flipping up the square piece at
the top of the back of the device. Our tool kit includes 2 Torx
screwdrivers. The larger T6 Torx screwdriver should be used to remove
standard screws. If it is not the correct size for the screws in your
device, please let us know. If the screws seem smaller than the T6
screwdriver, try the T5 Torx instead. Set the screws aside for
reassembly.
2. Use the green pry tool to pry around the case. Remove the front of
the case very carefully once it has been unsnapped from the rest of the
device, and set it aside.
3. Using the included Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two screws
that hold the motherboard into the back case. One is at the top right of
the device and the other is at the bottom left. Set the screws aside
for reassembly.
4. Flip the motherboard and screen open to the left (as if opening a
book), keeping in mind that the motherboard will remain attached to the
back cover at the top left. This will give you access to the battery.
5. Unplug the battery connector for the original battery from its
socket, taking care not to damage the socket. Remove the original
battery (carefully prying it out if needed), making sure to notice how
the battery was oriented. Be very careful not to puncture or damage the
battery when you remove it.
6. Plug the new battery's connector into the socket. Do not force it-
it will only fit in if oriented correctly. Note the location of the
prongs in the socket and the plugs on the battery to find the correct
orientation.
7. Place the new battery (oriented correctly) into the battery compartment.
8. Replace the motherboard and re-install the two screws that hold it in.
9. Replace the front cover and re-install the four back screws.
10. Charge the new battery for at least 3-4 hours.
****PLEASE NOTE: Patience and care, along with moderate technical and
hand tool ability, are required for the successful replacement of a
battery. Excessive force may result in damage to your device. The
instructions above come with no warranty or guarantee. By utilizing
these instructions, you agree to hold Batteryship.com and
BatteryEducation.com blameless and unaccountable for any and all
damages, problems, or personal injuries that may or may not arise by
your use of these instructions. Replacing your battery may void any
warranty you have on your device. Please read all instructions BEFORE
replacing the battery.
As for the hand held pin, you can fix it back in the process of the battery replacement.
Good luck.

If you can obtain an external antenna from another IQ3600 user it
will plug into the connecter on the top of the unit and bypass the fold out antenna. I had to buy one because the windshield in my Pont Montanna would block the satalite signals. When I plug in the external antenna I do not have to fold out the antenna on the unit.
That will check to see if the unit is recieving and /or if the fold out
wire is broken. The external antenna is not Garmin specific but the
plug on the end is so another gps antenna with the same end plug works.

Cheapest to ask Garmin to give you a break and do it all for you. They might fix it FREE - they are the best.
Thumbwheel of left side of IQUE3600 needs re-assembly
I have this same issue. Not sure yet what the answer is, but you will have to take it apart. The spring lays on top of the thumb wheel and the ends fit into notches so you have to seat one and then pull the other end back and up till it will seat in the notch. Then you have to place the thumb wheel back in place and put the silver cap on top. I had it all together but putting the unit back together just right will be difficult as my thumb wheel isn't seated right.. Guess you just have to keep at it till you line everything up correctly. I also had the problem with the brightness not being adjustable but haven't fixed that yet.
Ique 3200 freezes often
Mine does that if I leave it on the car dash in very hot weather. I have to do a hard reset to free it up. Unscrew the top of the stylus and insert the plastic pin into the reset hole in the back of the Ique. Then follow the prompts.
Is there a way to use ique 3600 with windows 7?
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and the iQue did not work. There is no USB driver and as far as I know there isn't going to be one. However, I did get it working by installing Windows XP mode and the Windows Virtual Machine on my XP system. You need to check if your computer can run XP mode and there are Microsoft tools to do that. After you get XP mode installed and running, there will be a virtual XP window on your desktop. Plug the iQue in its cradle and plug it in to the USB port. Use your iQue setup CD to install the Palm desktop in XP as you normally would. At some point, you have to tell XP to attach your iQue to the USB port. Near the XP title bar, there is a USB pull-down menu. Use this to attach the device. It will ask for a driver. Just say to use the Garmin-supplied driver. Wait until this finishes successfully. Before trying a sync, open the Palm desktop and go to Hotsync/custom and change everything you can to "handheld overwrites desktop" and save this. Push the hotsync button on the cradle. If it doesn't connect, go to the USB pull-down and click attach. It should work!
When syncing my iQ3600, I get the following

Hot sync problem for Garmin iQue 3600
If reinstalling on the same computer with your original cd doesnt' work then I suspect that your registry has gotten corrupted somehow.
I'd find another computer and try a totally new install to see if that works. This registry stuff is a headache.
If it works on a different computer then I'd go into the registry and remove all traces of Palm and ique and start all over. Always make a backup of your registry before messing around with it. If the original CD worked before then there's no reason to download newer versions unless you are wanting to solve some other problems.

It says i have no connection between my handheld
If you are trying to HotSync to a Macintosh, you need to install Lycestra's PDiQue software available at http://www.lycestra.com/ique.html before HotSyncing is enabled. PDiQue enables a USB conduit between your Mac and the Garmin iQue 3600.
Unit does not pick up satellites but recognizes
I have a unit like that. The antenna appears to be dead. It just searches forever and never finds anything. I use an external antenna that I got from eBay (brand is Gilsson) and it works fine. You just plug it in the external jack (after removing the little rubber plug) and it works even better than the built-in antenna.
