Toro ride on wont start

Battery required? Charge battery or replace. Replace air filter and spark plug. Dump out old oil and replace with 30w oil. Electric start may have a fuse blown. Dump out old gas fill with new with Stabile always added to gas. Try spraying starter spray in carb at air cleaner with filter removed. All mowers have a low oil sensor to prevent starting on low oil. Remove bowl from carb, should be full of gas. Pinch off fuel line with pliers or turn fuel valve off. Check float should be hanging down allowing fuel flow. Float up stops fuel flow.

I have a John deere 316 with a onan and it will not run unless the choke is almost closed, I have checked the fuel flow and the compression and all seems good. What do you think is wrong?

hello sir, mower will not start or run, runs only when primming, does it have good spark, good compression,or only runs on full choke, are you getting fuel to the engine if not try this, your fuel pump or your carb. is clogged up here is what you can do for a simple repair for the carb, you can remove the air filter and assy, empty fuel tank and clean out tank and line, remove the bowl nut and bowl careful of the gaskets, now spray carb cleaner in the small port holes in the carb steam in the middle of the carb until clean, now spray the bowl nut holes until clean there are three, after cleaning put bowl on the same way you removed it with dip towards front of float, put bow, and fresh gas,you should be good to go,hope this helps.,thank you.~~

Engine runs for short time then cuts off homelight 2700 psi power washer

There are 2 different enigines on these depending upong your actual unit model number.
One had a Subaru 175 cc engine and the other was a Honda engine. For carb specifics I need the ENGINE model number. Either way... here is what you need to do:
1. Fuel selector off.
2. Remove main fuel line from the carb.
3. Use a spray can lid and check FLOW. It should fill the lid in under 8 seconds. (Feul selector OFF now) If you do not have good fuel flow here you need to inspect the tank exit port, in line fuel filter if used and the sediment bulb under the fuel selector for debris
(GOOD FUEL FLOW NOW)
4. Remove the float bowl by unscrewing the bowl nut from the bottom of the carb. NOTE positon of gaskets as you remove float bowl. Use carb cleaner and direct a spray hopefully with mini extension tube of the carb nozzle into the center of the threaded area of the bowl nut. (This cleans main fuel jet orifice / pin hole) Then spray carb cleaner using mini nozzle extension up the flat side of the float needle until carb cleaner exits the main fuel line connection. Last spray from the main fuel line connection to the float needle (reversed spray)

This usually removes any debris from the float bowl. main fuel jet and main fuel manifold Reinstall the main fuel line.
- Turn on the fuel selector and use the spray paint can lid under the float to catch fuel. It should fill in 8 to 10 seconds to the point your worried about over-flow.
- GENTLY lift the float needle to the level position. FUEL MUST STOP.
- Lower Float to resting position. FUEL MUST FLOW so that it would fill the spray paint can lid in 8 to 10 seconds. (FUEL SLECTOR OFF)

Clean the bowl nut and reinstall the float bowl. Turn on the fuel.. wait 30 seconds for the float bowl to fill completely and start unit. If it runs GREAT... If it only runs with the choke on you still have a fuel supply problem...i.e most likely the main fuel just in the threaded area of the bowl nut is still clogged. .

This should get you going. Thanks for choosing FixYa,

EB5000 been sitting 6 months, have fuel stabilizer in gas. Will start, but won't stay running. I sprayed starter fluid and it kept running until I stopped spraying the fluid.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

If the generator has sat for some time the fuel in the float bowl will turn into a varnish like substance (shellac). The residual fuel in the carb will have to be removed. You do this by removing the fuel solenoid (or bowl nut) which ever one youhave that secures the float bowl to the carb. Then take a screw driver and remove the main fuel orifice and remove the debris from the main fuel orifice. Clean the orifice with carb cleaner. DO NOT push anything into the hole! Also spray the brass tube that the main fuel jet screws into with carb cleaner. You should see carb cleaner being sprayed into the throat of the carb.

While the fuel float bowl is removed get a spray can lid and hold it under the carb float. Turn on the fuel selector and the fuel should completely fill the spray can lid in 8 - 10 seconds. If you do not have this amount of fuel flow you need to remove the main fuel line from the carb and re-check fuel flow. If the flow is good here then use carb cleaner in the float needle area to force any debris back out the fuel manufold connection that is now open because you removed the fuel line. If you still do not have fuel flow then check for debris in the fuel tank exit port, the fuel filter, the sediment bowl under the fuel shut off assembly.
Once again with the spray can lid under the float you should have fuel flow anytime the fuel selector is on and the float level is down. It should shut off fuel just as it reaches level. Any other result and the float and float needle will have to be removed, cleaned and inspected for debris.

Make sure to re-install the main fuel orifice in the treaded area that secures the float bowl in place and.re-connect the main fuel line to the fuel manifold / carb fuel inlet connection

If the engine has a fuel solenoid hook it up and and see of it is working as you turn the key / engine switch on and off before you reinstall the float bowl. You make have to hold the case of the solenoid against the engine to make a ground AWAY from any residual fuel for testing. I.e. don't burn up your generator.
Re-install the fuel float bowl and test the engine. It should now work just fine.
The above steps are successful most of the time on generatosr that have sat idle for an extended period. I have been working on generators large and small for over 40 years.

I have a 06 honda trx250ex put new gas and oil in it and plug and battery and iit turns over but wont start but when i put started fluid in where the plug goes it starts for like a second or so and quits...

your problem is a clogged carb. clean float valve, main jet and idle circuit with a can of spray carb cleaner.

disconnect fuel hose at carb and see if gas flows.

reconnect hose and open float bowl drain valve. If no gas tap on side of float bowl with plastic end of screwdirver to free up float.

still no gas? remove float bowl and try to shoot carb cleaner into the fitting for the gas line from tank.

if gas flows now then put it all back together and it should run

if not then remove carb and clean carb passages, main jet, idle circuit.

My yamaha ttr 125l wont start it keeps turning over and then dying like it has no gas but it has lots any ideas?

too much fuel will cause same symptoms, grab a can of car throttlebody cleaner from the parts store, and pinch the fuel line off, and attempt to start till fuel is empty in the bowl of the carb, then spray cleaner in carb with the throttle full open 2 to 3 times close throttle, start, as it attempts to run spray slowley while engine runs, adjusting the flow as you rev engine.this eleminates poss bad gas or carb problems. if it runs fine this way then check gas, and check the carb. (while cleaning use a small wire to clean the tubes inside the carb as well, good luck!

Wont stay running

the problems is in the carburetor, common problems when unit does not run often and rust get get build up. get some automotive carburetor cleaners and spray it heavy in the carb, don't worried about flooding it or damaging anything, it will dry out faster than gas. (use little gas if you need to) try to start it up and get it running with the carb cover off and continue to spray carb cleaner in the carb while the engine is running, do this couple of time and hope that would clear it out. if that don't work you will need to take it apart and clean it. you have small tiny object obstructing the carb flow. the unit doesn't have a fuel pump, it run on gravity feed, the carb are easily obstructed. hope that help a bit

Can you assist with a John Deere lawn tractor? I

Leo, try removing the fuel bowl first and checking to see if the needle valve and float are working correctly.

Typically, whenever the fuel system has been "shellaced", the small port that lets fuel flow from the bowl into the carb, gets clogged. You can check this by removing the center nut on the bowl to drop it down. (turn off the fuel valve 1st) and be careful not to let the needle valve and spring retainer fall off the float.

Once you've done that, you can spray some Carb & Injector cleaner thru this port and use a small pipe cleaner to make sure the hole isn't clogged. Also, check the float to see if it's got any gas in it. If it does, you'll need to replace the float, as it shouldn't have anything but air in it, hence the term "float".

You should be able to get the carb working fine after doing the above, since you can get the engine running by spraying cleaner (starting fluid?) into the carb.

Here's a link to the B&S site where you can get info on your particular engine by using the model number stamped on the engine itself.

Wont continue to run after prime and start

often the last ounce of gas in the tank has some crud in it. Get a can of carbeurator cleaner spray. Remove the air filter and squirt three short bursts of the cleaner spray into the air port and then start it. Keep giving it short bursts of carb. cleaner until it runs smoothly again.

Carbs problem

Remove the fuel line from the carb. Turn the gas on > got flow? If not then clean the fuel line and petcock filter if it has one. Install an in-line fuel filter or replace the present one. Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Use compressed air to assist in cleaning. Is the float needle stuck closed? Be certain the vent tube and vent port are clear.
