STP won't stop the leak, only disassembling and replacing the seal. However, the car could be burning oil but the catalytic converter will complete the combustion of the 'smoke' to water (H2O) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
At 230,000 KM, I wouldn't be surprised that the rings are worn or the valve seals are leaking internally.
i notice the leak usually when i drive with high rpm (hit the gas).
this problem is common in bmw, but talking about oil and water as if ur saying the engine head is damaged, but thats not my problem.
so what STP is for??????
it says it stops minor oil leaks
STP thickens the oil and may 'slow' a leak down, but is not generally recommended for permanent fixes. If there is a leak, parts should be replaced to permanently fix the problem, unfortunately.
I've tried STP on cars before and it didn't work for me.
I didn't say that the engine head was damaged, I was saying that the emissions may not show 'smoke' but that would be due to the emission controls hiding the smoke from the tailpipe by completing combustion outside of the engine through the catalytic converter, if so equipped.
If the engine consumes oil excessively, it's leaking somewhere, but it may not show up on the ground when parked due to internal engine wear.
duane ur right, coz last week i added 1 can of stp (450 ml) just to try,
while adding i noticed its sooo thick as if ur adding glue to the engine,
and maybe thats its concept to be as glue in the engine, so maybe it slows
the rotation of lubricants in the engine.by the way am lebanese i live in kuwait and in summer the temp is 50 degrees Celsius,i guess all the rubber parts r suffering,no over heat problems now but at low RPM rounds i hear valves making noise,y u think???
The valve seals could be leaking which usually will go bad around the same time that the rings wear out, on high mileage vehicles.
High heat doesn't help matters, either.
the check engine indicator is always lighting on the dashboard,
the computer test report was, oxygen sensor failure, coils 2,3,6 failure.
OK, it looks like you have more problems than just an oil leak. The coils 2, 3, 6 not firing could make the engine run with a vibration and not run efficiently. The Oxygen sensor failure is common on high mileage engines, and can be caused by the coils not firing and the Oxygen sensor getting wet with fuel or carbon and not working. So your engine will run, but in what is called open loop which is less efficient than closed loop.
I'm afraid that your engine doesn't have a very good prognosis if it is burning oil and the coils aren't firing right.
Maybe, consider getting another good used engine that has lower mi. on it.
exactly dude, from time to time i face missfire problems at morning where the engine runs but with vibrations and slow rounds and take time to shift the gear.
thanks for ur time
Sure thing, good luck on it.
