That carb is a little big for that size motor, especially if you are driving on the street but you should be able to set it up. I don't know much about Edlebrock carbs but you need to slow down how fast the secondaries open up to full open. The motor will take it as long as it has a chance to rev up as you feed it more. I had a 600 Holley on a 267 years ago and it turned into a screamer once it was set up properly. I had to take it to a guy that knew Holley's and he played with it. Maybe talk to the guys at Edlebrock. Hope this helps.
I would recommend replacing the carb with a double pump holley performer series, I have had bad luck with the edelbrock performance, and their is always a lag when the secondaries open due to no accelerator pump on the secondaries.
