What I use is a chain wrench. It is a small chain about 16 inches long hooked to a long steel handle.
I believe you can find them at plumb shops ect.
I would remove one of the spark plugs and then make that cylinder go to the bottom and then with a good 3/8 rope fill the cylinder with the rope and then slowly turn the engine in the direction to loosen the bolt untill it is enough to remove the bolt. After loosening the bolt turn the pully the other way and remove the rope by pulliny on the extra comming out the spark plu hole.

If the engine turns over by hand with no locking up( with a spanner), you can lock the front bolt witha socket and long ratchet or breaker bar against the bottom arm and use the starter motot to turn the engine to crack the nut loose, coil disconected so as not to start the engine, 2 or 3 flicks of the key usualy does it.the engine turns clock wise so have the bar/ratchet hard up against the bottom of the bottom arm. have done this many times on different vehicles, hope this works for you.
I used a "BOA" rubber strap with the handle that works like a chain wrench. I had to turn it a little more to get it to grip until it finally let loose. Another way I thought of was taking out the round plug on top of the transmission bell housing which is used for visual on Top-Dead-Center. There are 9mm heads on the bolts on the flywheel that I put a wrench on which will be wedged against the hole. I taped a long hose to the wrench in case it fell inside of the hole. This seemed more solid and no movement like the rubber strap created.
