The connector to the alternator can cause this, also an intermittant diode failure in the rectifier as well as worn brushes this is hard to confirm unless the light is on when you do the test.

My 2005 dodge neon's battery won't hold a charge, lights flicker and dim and on the dashboard the word fuse flashes, what is going on?

Could be a bad battery but I suspect your battery cable is either loose or corroded or dirty. Before you pull the battery disconnect your battery cables and clean them both ends and when you put them back on make sure you have good connections and tighten good.If that does not work pull your battery and get it tested at a battery out let . they should do that for free.

Check your pulleys, belts and tensioner.. If the belt is slipping and the spring is not keeping it tight, or the pulley is not free wheeling like it should, it can cause a charging problem

I was driving home tonight and my Check Charging systm light came on. I then lost power - could only go 60Km and the car was very hard to steer.

Check serpentine belt--may have broke or came off. If the not belt, have the alternator tested. If you have more questions, please let us know.

The battery light comes on at low speeds or stopped at light. then will come on sometimes when driving down the road.

First check your belt tension, you may have a worn out belt that needs to be replaced. If the belt condition and tension are fine have the charging system including the battery checked. Most likely you find tat the belt is bad by the way the light is acting.

Having trouble starting car. The battery is fine since lights still come on. Found a shredded belt. Not sure if it's the alternator belt. Appreciate the help. Marcia

Don't drive the car until you make sure the belt that is shredded is not the water pump belt. YOU could drive but the engine will overheat and have a more costly problem. Two things, if the lights are working but the car is not starting. It could be that the terminals are dirty on the battery AND if the belt that is shredded is the Alternator belt, the battery could be just down on charge. Do to things (1) Find out which belt needs to be replaced and have it replaced. (2) Charge the battery, maybe a friend has a charger, if so have them trickle charge the batter for at least 12 hrs. Less there's some other problem that should take care of it.

New battery will not charge

Check the Belt for Tension. If the Belt Tensioner is even a Little loose it will not allow The Alternator to Charge the Battery. Also Check the Battery Cables. Make sure that they are Clean and have no Corrosion on them.I think that the Problem is the Belt Tensioner or the Alternator Though.

Dim battery light on dash when i'm driving.

Battery doesnot get charge due to dead alternator or loose serpentine belt. If you in US go to nearest Autozone store and check the battery for volatge and alternator for charge. If both fine check the serpentine belt if it is tight enough

If it is fine check the connections of alternator and battery for corrosion. Corrosion can increase the resistance and decrease the electrical current
