I have a 1988 toyota pickup 4x4 5 speed. I took it hunting and went throught a lot of mud then the next day I was driving down the road and it started making a roaring noise for the front right. It's not wheel bearings cause I already checked em. I'm thinking it's the axle but idk if an axle does that.

Indeed ... Good answers BOTH,..

Nature sides with the hidden flaw..
If those CV or U-joints have any play (worn)
the lack of balance will make itself known

Vibrations & noise...
So I will only add (because 1988 was a good year)

Once cleaned & lubed.. (as suggested)
Have a helper go around and turn the wheels
(one-by-one) while you watch and feel the
DRIVELINE for any looseness...

I see some new PARTS in your FUTURE...
(better to check out PRICES when you don't
need them).

Parts are AVAILABLE...

Hope this helps

Could be a few things but as vibrations from the drive train can travel....First grease all the u joints to eliminate that.
could be the cv joint.
had one case where it turned out to be the rear diff. weird!
getting it up on a lift will definitely give you a resolution.

Needs a good washing under the axle area. Sounds like the mud dried and causing friction

I'd get the manual and start looking for the speed sensor on the tranny output side...

because that's the easy and cheap end...

ELSE you are looking at (hunting for) the gauge itself...

Have a 03 matrix with a oilpump promblem I think, bought the car last week ran good next day was drive on highway notice oil lap on and noise from motor ,slowed down light went off.Next day change oil and...

Generally three things can turn the light on. First is the sending unit itself if it's going bad. Next is an obstruction of the pump pickup screen (usually hard carbon deposits). Third is worn engine bearings (usually rod bearings). Best way to find the problem is to have someone put a mechanical pressure gauge on the engine and read the actual pressure. If it's low you need to go into the engine to determine why. if it's normal, replace the sending unit. Senders aren't terribly expensive and you could just buy one and replace the one you have, providing the engine isn't tapping or knocking.

I have a 94' Toyota pick up truck. 2wd, 5spd and my transmission or something is grinding pretty often, I might shift too quick. But it sounds like a roaring while driving, and sometimes it sounds like...

Sounds to me like your transmission is just plain worn out from running with no fluid in it. I have an early 5 speed from the 1988 Toyota that works fine if your interested. I have the same from an "84 in my "86 Toyota pickup I just took off the road last January. The '94/'95 should be the same if you want to keep your truck on the road. Mine had frame rot, typical of these trucks.

Use 2 wheels, the other 4wd low ,for climbing at slow speeds: 4wd high, for driving on low traction roads, like mud or snow,at medium speeds: 4wd auto full time all wheel drive, for highway speeds on slippery surfaces, like rain or light snow.
