2006 Kia Sorento dash lights go off and on

Hit a bump and dash goes dark, press on the cruise button or roll the dash light dimmer switch and presto lights come back on. I believe the issue is in that area, as even tapping the dash near those items and the lights come back on. Hit another bump, lights out. Sometimes the overhead lights will flicker and pop on and off as well. Yesterday a new one, the headlights were on, when the switch was in the off position, working the headlight control would not turn them off. Drove it home and once parked they were working normally again. Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like the connection behind the instrument cluster is loose, i had a customer with the same problem only on a 2012 camry and it turned out to be the connection on the cluster. I just adjusted the tension on the connection by bending the contact pins a little.

SOURCE: 2004 kia sorento the dome light will not come on

The problem is the diode needs to be replaced. The dome light works in the "on" position, but does not work when any of the doors are opened. The diode itself is about half the size of a dime which you can buy from a kia dealer for less then $20. You don't have to disconnect the battery to do this.
1. Remove the kick panel which is right next to the foot rest on the drivers side and where the fuse box is located. You will have to pry open the door foot guard to get to the other screw for the kick panel.
2. right next to the fuses box there is a wiring harness wraped in black cloth like material or some type of harness cover, just peel it back or remove. You can feel the diode through the wrap.
3. the diode is in a sleeve like incasement or cover carefully pry open and slide the diode out.
4. replace diode with new one and your done.

How to tell if a fuse in 2003 Kia Sorento is good

None of those would be fixed by replacing the battery. Or did you replace the battery and then all of those stopped working?

You can tell of blade fuses are blown if you full them and hold them up to the light. That is a whole lot of stuff not working. I would say you need a good auto-electrician.

Where is the fuse for the dash lights . the light are bright with key on. Go dull when the headlights are turned on

That is normal. They go bright because during the daytime the outside light is also bright so the lights compensate for the outside brightness by making your dash lights also bright. When you turn your headlights on it assumes it is nighttime and you don't need to have the brightness to see the dash lights so it compensates for this. If you want them to be dimmer, near the light switch there is a roller button to turn your interior lights on just roll that some and it will either make the dash lights brighter or dimmer.

I have a 04 Toyota Tacoma. I have short in the dimmer switch.

It cold just be a fuse that is loose in the fuse box causing the dash lights to come on and off. Or potentially a loose wire from the fuse box the dash lights.
