Wiper wiring diagram

The ignition switch has broken in my 99 Subaru Legacy Wagon. It will not turn off. I can start and drive the car, but have to put it in gear and let the clutch out to stall the engine. I disconnect the battery when the car will be sitting. A few days after the ignition switch quit working, the windshiels wipers won't come on front or back, the radio and side mirrors won't work either. All the other electrical functions seem to work. The fuse for the wipers and radio are not blown. I know I need a new ignition switch, but why are the wipers screwd up. Thanx, Conrad B.

Those are accessory functions working off the ignition switch when in accessory position or run position of the key. Were you to check if the wiper and radio fuse had power to them in the run or accessory position as they should, likely they would not. Power from the switch goes to the fuse panel, powering the fuses and circuits that only work with key in on or acc., either a direct wire to the fuse panel or sometimes, fuses get power from an accessory relay that sends power to fuses, but relay has to get a signal from a good working switch before it powers the fuses.
What I'm trying to say, is the bad switch is probably the reason you have no wipers, radio, or mirrors.

Yea. I kinda thought that the switch is the culprit in this case. Thanx for the feed back. RadCon

HI
Well im a girl and know nothing about cars and just had a nightmare with my wipers. Went to 3 garages yesterday who checked the motor and fuses and they were fine. They all said it was the wiper relay which I have had to order from Benfield motors-they are now selling the parts for renault...they didnt have a clue to be honest! The lads in Kwik Fit have been amazing and very helpful! Hope this helps. I am waiting for my relay to be delivered...so fingers crossed!!

SOURCE: windshield wipers will not work, battery drains

do you have a light bulb in the glove box? if so pull it out, and it sounds to me like the multifunction switch is malfunctioning, the battery being low would cause the radio not to work if the voltage drops beloow 11 volts so try the multi function switch, if you can follow a wiring diagram then go to http://www.alldatadiy.com buy a subscription for your car clcik on search and type in symptom also look at recalls for your car that wil help you to figure out what is wrong if you need more assistance let me know.

SOURCE: 100A battery fuse blown?

They more than likely shorted out your 100a link fuse by grounding out your alt cable while replacing it. Sounds like they didn't disconnect the battery before hand. Your car has an idle program which it re-learns every time you lose power, or in your case, turn off the switch. You need to replace this fuse or your car will not charge.

How come my wagon won't start but only sometimes?

Sounds like weak connection somewhere,I would start by one at a time, clean by scraping the prongs of each fuse. If this does not resolve your issue go by one of the parts houses that provide free electrical and charging system checks

1992 Subaru legacy ignition switch turns on but it doesnt give turning sound to start engine.

I've changed quite a few ignition switches on Subaru's after 150,000 miles. It could also be a bad connection at the starter (the small wire) or a bad starter.

Need to narrow down whether it's mechanical, as in a chipped starter gear or misaligned starter, or electrical connection. See if the starter solenoid is consistently getting power when you turn ignition key
