In may be the fuel pump. Check recalls on your year make and model. My girlfriend has a 2004 S60 which had the same problem. I changed the fuel filter at first assuming that that was the problem but the smell persisted. I then took it to the volvo dealership and had them replace it for free. The only bad thing is that they may keep it for a few days to do it.

Smelled gas and check engine light came on. Periodically have smelled gas over the past 6 months or so. What is cause?

Hi Ed.
this is all i could find at the moment.
Gas Cap Causing Gasoline Smell in Car. I know it may seem obvious, but a loose or missing gas cap can cause a fuel smell in your vehicle. You could even have a faulty gas cap that is leaking fumes. A faulty gas cap can also cause the check engine light to illuminate with a DTC on newer cars.

My car wont start

It doesn't matter if the exhaust is leaking if the car won't start. The smell... does it smell like gasoline? If you have a new alternator and battery, then I would focus on the fuel system. Fuel pump, fuel injector, leaking fuel line, bad spark plugs, bad distributor cap, bad spark wires, oxygen sensor, etc.

Smell of gas outside of car that is blown in when the air conditioning is running. It seems most prevalent near the right rear of car.Does not seem to be leaking though fuel gauge does seem to be dwindling...

take it somewhere with a lift. pay them a few bucks to put it up in the air and look for wet spots. touch the wet spots and sniff your finger, eventually one of those wet spots will smell like gasoline, follow the wet spot to its source and there you go. most likely a gas tank thing, filler tube, rusted spot on tank leaking, leak in the fuel line, etc. it is a fuel injected car, high pressure, so if leak is on the engine side of the fuel pump when it goes it will be a mess and a fire hazard. it is nearly 10 years old so you might want to just drop the tank and replace the fuel pump anyway if you are looking at any serious labor.

Where is the Volvo s70 fuel pump located

The stock Bosch fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and can be accessed by removing the rear seat. Certain models have been recalled due to cracked flanges, permitting fuel to leak. If you smell gasoline inside or outside the vehicle or see wet fuel lines underneath the vehicle, contact your local Volvo dealer immediately. See below:

Hello, I have a Volvo S60 2,4d. Basix 130ps,

how are the plug wires, boosted engine's suffer from voltage leaks in even fairly new plug wires, the added cylinder pressure makes the spark plug require allot more voltage before it can fire compared to normally aspirated engine.

Smell gasoline after turning off the engine. 2006

I had this Problem on my S-10 it was a bad fuel injector, the problem was when i looked for the leak it would evaporate quickly, use a flash light and look at each of your fuel injectors as soon as you turn of the car. If you do it yourself it is an easy fix, mine cost 12 dollars and about an hour to replace.

Gas tank leaking

It is probably your fuel pump. I have the same car, and smelled gas for a while, even had trouble starting car when I was low on gas. Volvo has an extended warranty for this part, so it was replaced for free at a dealership.
