I have a problem with asus eee 901. I've just bought it. It had linux, but it was changed into windows xp. Since it had been fully charged only once I was using it on battery and setting it up with new programs. The battery discharged and it went on stand-by. I woke it up and waited until battery was dead. That started charging it and turned the pc on, but the screen went white and stayed that way for couple of seconds. Moments latter it turned black and now it doesn?t seem to work. What could have happened? What can I do? When i try to turn the PC on power indicator is lit, battery indicator is working normally (it is charging right now) and the ssd indicator is lit all the time.

I've tried it several times. It doesn't boot up.

The power light will turn on, as will the indicator next to the lightbulb picture. This is when the battery is not removed and it's plugged into power. The screen doesn't turn on and the keyboard is unresponsive

Remove the battery for a couple of minutes while the unit is not plugged into the a/c adaptor. Reinstall the battery, plug the unit into the a/c adaptor, and see if it will boot up.

On my daughters Asus Eee pc notebook 901/XP on start up the screen stays black and a flashing cursor in the top right though after several mins no change, how can i fix this.

It's possible that the disk-drive inside the computer has failed.
So, the copy of Windows stored on the disk-drive cannot be read, and Windows cannot start-up.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting (which may include replacing the disk-drive).

Is it still under warranty? (Was it purchased with a credit-card that automatically doubles the length of the warranty?)

Linux version won't upload software

Try Linux Ubuntu Version 10.04 for netbooks... Or the stable 9.10. You can easily create a bootable USB flash drive to test BEFORE fully installing.

How do i reset a eee pc 901

To reset my 901 XP, I remove the battery as shown on page 3-3 of the instruction manual.
The reset button can now be accessed: it is a small shiny metal
plate, about 3mm by 15 mm located on the left of the battery compartment (closest to the LAN port).
Press the metal plate once with a ballpoint.

The os is to frustrating linux is not for me ..xp is what I want .need to get linux out then install xp.

The particular model of Asus is apparently pre-loaded with Xandros Linux operating system.

It appears that you are not familiar with Linux and hence the apprehension and feeling that a shift to XP would be easier.

Why not give Linux a try ? There are a good many websites out there which go through the basics of using a Linux PC. Try them out, by spending some time in learning - you will get far more satisfaction and become more productive in using your laptop.

Some websites which might be of assistance to you are listed below:-

I have asus 901 Eee PC that came with asus linux, tried to install windows 2000 or XP. i keep getting a blue screen stop error. any suggestions ???

To install windows on the Asus Eee comoputers, you need to install one that is built of linux.

This can be gained by paying an extra $50 when you make your Eee purchase, it is already installed to the computer.

The reason your are getting the blue screen is because these Eee computers are made specifiacly for linus and they cannot cope with your general Xp distro

Just bought an asus eee 901, cant connect it to i-net. think may be because installed norton on it before set it up to my home network. how do i restore it to factory settings

I'm sure it has a recovery disc package to it, i don't know if it is bundled with linux or windows xp or maybe both, you should use the recovery disc to restore to factory settings using an external(USB) optical drive.

Ok your gonna need a couple of things to put XP on the Linux Eee PC.

A usb 2.0 CD or DVD
The Offical windows XP service pack 2 disc from Microsoft
A usb flash disk larger than 1 gig or an external harddrive
ASUS PC Eee support CD from original package.

If you have those things the ASUS Eee XP installation instruction manual can be downloaded here
