SOURCE: engine turns over but wont start.......

Our 97 Continental wouldn't start. Our Chrysler trained independent mechanic thought it was a theft recognition problem.

The tech at our lincoln dealership identified it as a defective mass airflow sensor but wanted an arm and a leg to fix.

She disconnected the sensor which allowed the car to start and run (a bit rough) and was able to get it back to our mechanic without needing another tow.

Got the sensor for a fraction of the cost of the dealership estimate, and possibly could have done it myself with a bit of effort.

SOURCE: how to reset fuel shut off switch in trunk of a 1997 lincoln ctnl

just press the button to reset it. Per your owner manual. Should only trip in an accident.

WHen you turn on the key, can you hear the fuel pump run for 5 seconds. The pump is in the fuel tank. listen there while someone turns the key on. report back.

SOURCE: 1997 lincoln Continental serpentine belt change

you need to find which pulley is the belt tensioner. use a socket and a breaker bar to lift the tensioner. once the belt loosen, slide the belt off one of the pulleys close to you. then slowly release the tensioner.

I unplugged my battery and I can hear something ticking fast, when I pull out fuses under the hood (main fuses) noises change..

could be the solenoid on the starter motor clicking, or sometimes there is just enough battery power to put lights on but higher drain items just click on & off trying to cut in, test the battery output voltage should be at least 12v to start, a fully charged battery will be 13.5v, under 12v is no good.

Turns over - won't start. towed to garage. Starts immediately. This happened twice. What's wrong?

I had this very same problem. I replaced the battery with a Ford 875 cranking amp battery and the fuel filter. The air ride really beats on those batteries, especially if the compressor is worn out.

The key has to open the drivers door

Raise the car up,support it,& put your battery
charger on the starter battery cable terminal
& ground the black clip

Try charging the battery for 4 hours or so

1999 lincoln continental drivers power seat won't work

Could be any number of items related to the seat
power motor circuit

Start by removing & testing the switches

If modules are involved, then it will be beyond
your ability to diagnose ,without a trouble chart

Check any fuses that apply

If a fuse is blown,replacing it won't
likely fix the issue, only blow again

1995 lincoln continental. Sitting at stop light, abs light comes on, drove home about 5 miles and abs lignt on and off the whole time. parked car and now wont start. just clicks. any suggestions?

Anytime a starter clicks instead of turning over, you should suspect your battery is weak. Try to get a jump start and take the car to an auto parts store. Most of them will do bettery and alternator checks for no charge.
