The warning light for fuel level being too low is always on, even when fuel tank has plenty of gas or even full. The gas gauge is working just fine.

The sensor is part of the fuel pump module inside the gas tank.
The signal is sent to the body computer, so it could be a faulty module or a problem with the body computer.
The circuit would need to be checked with a meter.

SOURCE: gas gauge

The float that moves the gas hand is possibly stuck in the tank. If there's isn't an access hole in the rear of the vehicle you'll have to drop the tank. Unless it becomes free on it's own. Hope this is helpful. Please rate. Thanks

SOURCE: 2002 Chevy Suburban: Fuel gauge reads empty, tank is half full

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.

SOURCE: Full tank of gas and getting low fuel indicator on dash

Bad fuel level sensor. Unfortunately it is located inside the gas tank. Fairly common problem on GM's. Due to sulphur in fuel. Corrodes the sensor tabs. Expensive to have repalced and NOT a do-it-yourself project, unless you have dropped a tank before.

2013 Kia Optima. Fuel gauge shows 1/16th of a tank and the low fuel light is not on. Engine shut down. Out of gas. Add gas. Car starts up. What would cause the gauge to misread in this way?

most fuel gauge readings are not that accurate anyway so its out of fuel but not what the is guage reading. but the fuel level sensor in the tank may be at fault sound like its the prob but the instument pack should put the low fuel light on if its fitted on your vehicle spec but not always fitted even though the warning light is present hope this helps

My gas light is on, took off gas cap & put back on but light still on. Any suggestins?

I suggest you read the vehicle owner's handbook to be certain what the exact function of the light is. You will need to know that in order to determine whether the light is warning you or is broken.

The fuel light usually warns the fuel level in the tank is low...

What does the yellow low fuel light mean on information center? i dont have a user manual

Simple... you are running low on gas. The light comes on when the tank is under 1/8th full. If you are certain that you have plenty of gas, your fuel level sending unit is bad. Try putting 10 dollars worth of gas in and see if the light goes out.

The low fuel light stays on even when tank is

Hi: Your Fuel Level Sending Unit That Is Located in Your Fuel Tank Is Probally Bad. BUT before you go to taking the Sending Unit out Of your Tank Check to see if ALL Connections To And From Tank to Gauge are Conected Good. Also You could have a Fuse that Goes to the Sending Unit,in Your Fuse Block.Check And See if You Have A Fuse Labeled Fuel Sending Unit or Fuel Sensor. If you end up Replacing The Fuel Tank Sending Unit Run Your Gas Tank Down To Almost Out Of Gas Before You Start to Remove The Metal Straps Holding Your Tank Up. Cause The Sending Unit Is on Top of Your Tank ,And Your Fuel Pump Is In The Gas Tank As Well. Fuel warning light stays on despite full tank and correct gauge

sounds like a bad gas meter unit in the gas tank if not working. I dont know toyota the tanks but my jeep the thing that read the level is hooked to the pump. Looks like metal arms with plastic arm that floats to tell the level in the gas tank

1989 Saab 900 low level fuel light

You don;t say whether the fuel gauge is reading accurately, or whether it's always on empty. If the gauge is always showing empty, it's most likely a problem with the sending unit in the fuel tank. Check the resistance across the two terminals of the sending unit.

On a C900, the fuel sender level unit is separate from the fuel pump and located on the right side top of the tank, accessible by removing the trunk floor lift up panel (the pump is located on the left side top of the tank.
Possible problems are: electrical line off or broken, float not working (it's fairly delicate); or gauge not working.

Test the resistance of the sending unit with the lines disconnected, the resistance should be 2.6 to 3.8 ohms full tank, 63.3 to 67.5 ohms empty tank; and test for voltage across the top of the sender unit, if no voltage, that's likely the problem!

If the gauge is otherwise reading accurately (showing 'full' for a full tank, etc) then the problem is likely a gauge malfunction and can be simply replaced.

Good luck!
