Kia rio oil overfilled 1.5 quarts by dealer

Hi,
Check the Owner's Manual for the total amount it holds.

To ADD, put in 1/2 quart, let it settle for 5 mins, and check it. This way you don't put in TOO MUCH oil- that's bad too.

While the 08 model takes 3.5 quarts should be the same. Check panel on driver side door should also tell the amount.

You have already figured it out but don't know the answer <(^_^)> . It's the alternator.

Kia rio 2009 model is very sleek car. Oil should be 4 litres/ quartz.
It is a very lovely car.

your post is 1 year old. i started helping others 1 week ago. as a fellow rio owner im here to help there are currentl over 5000 un answered posts. if you still need help re-post your problems .its free to get your check engine light checked at most auto parts stores . write down the codes and meanings. 03 kia rio's are blue booked at about $500.
if you re-post with a code you can get faster help. if your car dont have a code . its hunt and guess . my guess would be throtle position sensor,knock sensor or mass air flow

Add 3 quarts, then start checking the dip stick. Add extra until you're within range.

go to Pep Boys and Auto Zone and have the code read for free.  and fix it now, as it doesn't sound like something you can wait on.
Also the oil change had absolutely nothing to do with the problems you are having now.
Cars cost money, and it doesn't sound like you are keeping up with the maintenance on this one, sadly you'll pay more in the end.

you should consult your owners manual for the schedule of transmission maintenance....if you don't have one call your local kia dealer they will be able to let you know
