Need to replace fuel pump but need its location on car
The fuelpump is located inside the gas tank, you will need to drop the tank and remove the pump from the top. also make sure to install new fuel filter.

The fuel filter should be under the vehicle usually on the drivers side up along the frame
I am so grateful for automotive help but the same question with two different answers makes my hair catch on fire. Is the damn fuel PUMP in a 96 cougar 4.6 liter in the damn tank or under the back seat?
I don't know about two answers, the one I answered was about a fuel filter. And yes the pump is in the tank, and you will most likely have to remove the tank from the vehicle in order to get at the pump.

It's in the tank you'll see a round plate with bolts in it take those out but first make sure you get as much gas out as you can otherwise it will spill all over you and the work area and a possibility of a fire is eminent put a new screen on the fuel pump there already should be one but it depends on what you bought /just a pump or the whole sender pump assembly make sure you don't stretch the gasket lube all bolts with antiseize lubricant and install tightening in a criss cross pattern a little each Time to make sure it seats properly

check the fuse .if the fuel pump was bad you blew the fuse . there is a inertia switch in the trunk or under the dash you could check . push the red button to reset relay should be under the hood in the fuse box check your book if you have one.

It is located on top of the engine under the throttle body, it sucks, plan on a whole day if you are a good machanic.

what is anti-theft light doing? It should come on solid for about 2 sec after you turn the key on then turn off. If it is flashing after this then it is not seeing the computer chip in the key and you have a PATS problem.

The switch is located in the drivers side panel in the foot well, there is a hole in the panel for access to the reset button, this panel is commonly called the kick panel, it is to the left of your foot in the drivers foot well once again..

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.
