Got 1989 Grand Am with 2.5 engine Am having problem with it I have changed ingition module coil packs fuel pump filter plug wires even put a remanufatured computer in it . the problem I haveing with it is that you can drive it for a 3 or 4 days and then it will not crank when it get hot. you have to let it cool off for about a hour do you have any idea what going on with it. I have change things on it so much i cant figure out the problem their is no fire going to injecter when it wont crank you can pour gas in carberator and it will crank but wont stay running. i changed computer in it twice but that hasnt stopped it yet. had the module check by two different people it shows it is not bad the only time it quits is when it get hot and you try to crank it back up. it runs fine when when its running dont have no problems that way. stumped on this problem.

Sounds like the injector windings are opening up. I hate to have you toss more money at this thing so lets do this. Plug a noid light into the injector plug when you have the no start problem.. If the noid light flashes. I'm correct. If it don't, I'm wrong and we need to look at the crank sensor...Good luck. If this was help please leave feedback.

I have a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity-2.8 multi-port engine. I have replaced the fuel pump, the fuel filter, put a new distributor cap on, replaced the spark plugs and new wires. Changed the air and oil...

Sounds like something getting warm/hot as engine warms up. Could be the MAP sensor, Coil/Coil pack, Ignition Switch(not the key cylinder), or possibly the Oxygen Sensor.

Next time it does this, pull a plug wire out of the coil pack and hold it close to the tower, and have someone crank the engine to see if your still getting a spark.
Could also be a loose connector on the throttle body injection, or a broken wire.

Changed starter and alternator and still wont start on 1988 grand am

There are few things that you will have to check. 1) Is the battery properly charged. 2) Are you getting spark at the spark plugs, when you crank the car to start. 3) Is there proper fuel in the car. ---------------- If the battery is not charged properly the car will not start.Check the voltage of the battery .It should be exact 12volt. If there is no spark coming when you crank the engine then its the problem of either the spark plugs or the coil pack.the spark plugs gets power to spark from coil packs. Also check the fuel pump and fuel filter. If the fuel pump and fuel filter are worn out then it will not supply the fuel properly to the engine and this results in no-start problem. If all battery, fuel pump and spark plugs checked out OK then its time to check the wiring connections between the battery to starter and battery to alternator. This will help. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

2.8 multiport 1989 camaro

Hi, this is normally a fuel transfer issue. i recommend changing the fuel filter and fuel pump if not done already. I also would change the air filter as well.this will help with the air and fuel flow.

If possible, it would help even more if you would change the spark plugs and wires as well.

To top it off, Add a fuel system cleanser. Techtron makes some of the best fuel additives on the market. This type of fuel system cleaner will scrub the fule lines and intake as well, in return, cleaning out all carbon deposits that may be causing spuddering and obstructions.

Possible igition problems

mcdevito75 here, Look on the firewall for a white 4 prong reistor, change thisresistor, see if your car starts, if so great, if not, remove the plugs from the resistor and jump them with 2 wires not across the plugs, at the plugs there are 2 connectors with 2 plugs that plug into this resistor, use a jumper wire, any wire between the connections on each plug, seee if the car starts, if so you need a new resistor, if not you"ll have to change the ignition module.
