2000 Kia Sephia starting problem

I have a problem starting my sephia. I usually have to let it crank for about 7 seconds or so. then stop and when I let it crank again for about 3 seconds then the engine will start. Does anyone know what the problem could be? thanks. by the way it is the 1.8l DOHC with a 5 speed tranny. Thanks, Jeff I have a 2001 Kia Sephia. It has been to the dealership 4 times for not starting. It will crank but not start. They keep telling me that it won't "do it" for them. This morning I went to pick it up (still not working) and it actually started at the dealership. Imagine that. I have looked on line and found a lot of people have the same problem with their car. What should I tell the dealership to do? I have 74,000 miles on it and very frustrated.

2000 kia sephia cranks but engine wont run

The fuel pump may have died. Can you hear it turn on briefly, by turning the key to "on"? You may have to stand by the gas tank while someone turns the key to on. It should turn on for about 2 seconds and then stop, after pressurizing the fuel system. If you don't hear it, then check the fuel pump fuse. If the fuse is good, and the pump won't run, one needs to check that the fuel pump wire at the tank connector has battery voltage on it when the engine is cranking-then, you can assume the pump needs replacing.
If the pump is working and you have gas up to the engine, you would next check the ignition system. Start that by checking for spark on one of the spark plug wires.

My 2001 kia sephia wont start all the time. Just

when this happens you need to check somethings at that time to point you in the right direction, fuel press & spark , also you need to have the cam and crank sensors checked the shop should be able to find the resistance values of what they should be and then ohm yours. But the main thing is rule things out and narrow it down.
