Hy Bigjohn87, look like the problem is the regulator that is allowing too much power passing through to charge the batery. If you have a comun electrical tester check how much volts are at the batery when the car is running, should be more than 13 volts and less than 13.7volts more or less.
If the voltage is more than 14 v. probably the regulator should be changed.
Any car electrician can test and diagnose it problem en minutes without much fuse.
Wish you good luck

The battery has 12.5 volts across it any other ideas would be great.

2001 ford taurus power draining new battery & new alternater won't work when cables are removed from battery

That suggests that the problem is in the harness, something in the connector or wiring is causing an open circuit. You will need to have the circuit tested to find the fault. Ford alternators have known connector issues & new aftermarket connectors are readily available at most auto parts stores.

On a 1997 Ford Taurus the car battery was installed backwards and now the car will only drive on battery no power pulled from alternator...replaced alternator twice but problem must be something else. Any...

Since you have replaced the alternator and I am assuming that the car still drives. This is a 175amp main fuse that should be OK. There is a 30amp fuse located in the engine compartment fuse box. These fuses are usually green. I believe it is going to be fuse number 25.. but just guessing on your car model. Glance and this and hope it helps..

1997 ford taurus charging issue, checked connections, replaced alt and still having same issue. I also checked fusible links and all is good.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Try replacing the battery connectors. Check the alternator wiring and battery cables if they are corroded. Something prohibits it from charging and one of it is corrosion.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

The battery on our 2001 ford taurus sel keeps being drained.

Hi,

The problem should be from your alternator. The alternator charges the battery when the car engine is turned on. So, if your battery is being drained always, then it means your alternator is not charging the battery.

Have your alternator tested, in order to be sure its in good condition.

Best regards.

I have a 1998 for taurus and the battery keeps draining. The alternator and battery are both good. I have read on how to dete4rmine if there is a drain on your battery. I have disconnected the positive...

If you unplug the harness from the alternator you may find that the drain will go away.If the rectifier is blown in the alternator the the regulater will not turn off making a 4 amp drain.Replace the rectifier or put on a new alternator.

You have an Alternator or alternator connector issue, have Auto Zone or Kragen test the charging system, it is free, most likely the alt will need to be replaced.
