Probably the heater motor resistor.Located under the hood.Look by where heater hoses go into the firewall.Held in with 2 sheet metal screws.May also find the plug is burnt too and is available at any Ford dealer.

Temp gauge not working 1991 ltd crown vic

Find temp. sending unit on engine. If one wire type ground that wire to good engine ground, with key on gauge should go all the way to hot. If it does replace faulty sender. If it doesn't than you have bad gauge, wire or connection. ( If replacing sender, make sure engine is cold. remove radiator cap to releave pressure and you will loose antifreeze when it comes out install new one quickly and don't use teflon tape as this needs to be able to ground to engine.)

1986 ltd country squire heater blows fine but only mildly warm air comes out. there is a control sensor just below the inlet hose to the heater core. is this what controls water flow to the core and does...

that could be the water valve that is controlled by the hot/cold knob on teh heater control, Have someone turn the knob to cold and then hot and see if you can see the valve turn.

Feel the inlet and outlet heater core hoses. They should be about the same temp when the engine is warmed up.

Humming from under gas tank resulting in dead battery, 1989 Ford

Sounds like a fuel pump causing noise. If the noise is still present with the key off then the fuel pump relay is stuck causing the battery to die.
