How do i get the calippers of to get old pads out and new ones in

hi,first off all open bonnet and undo cap on brake master cylinder reservare,(put a nice absorbant cloth round the reservare just to be shore not to get the brake flued on eney paint work,as it will damidge it),then jack car up and take road wheele off,(make shore hand brake is off and car has some wedge shape wood under front wheele so that car cant move eneywhere),the calipper that holds the brack pads in place has two bolts at the back off the calipper,if there is wires coming out of the brake pads undo at connectors,(these are brake sensors to worn you when the brake pads are worn out,not all mercedes have them),right you need to fist get a screwdriver and put it between the pad and disc and push gently so the piston thats in the calipper(on the inside of the calipper)moves in so that the pads can now move back and forth a little bit in the calipper,now you can undo the two bolts on the back of the calipper the calipper will come off the car,now push the pads apart so that the piston is pushed right into the calipper,(you can do this with a g-clamp or grips then put a spanner in between the brake pads to stop the piston from moving back out)now you can carefuly put the calipper aside being carefull not to stretch the brake hose, now the brake disc (rotor)if you look at the disc where the studs are you will see a small screw or allan-key fitting undo that and the disc will come off(some times you might have to just give it a little bit of help by hitting the disc gently with a hammer),
then put it back in reverce of taking apart(dont forget when you have put it back together press the brake peddle a couple of times then top up the brake fluid in the reservare in between the recarmended lines on the reservare.

The question to ask did you replace the caliper as a complete unit from the mounting bracket bolts . If so then the caliper may not be sliding on the two bolts that position it on the mount bracket. If this is not allowed to slide free (rusted up) then after you apply the brakes the caliper will be pulled into position but when the brakes are released the caliper cannot centralise and so one side of the pad is held on the disc rotor.. It is a matter or taking out the long bolts ,one at a time, and cleaning and lubricating the pins so that the caliper is free to move.

The calippers might be siezing.They might work only when fluid is at high temp.

Its possible one of the new rotors was dropped before it was installed.
If it only happens when you hit the brakes it almost has to be a brake rotor out of round or a slick spot on the surface.
Same thing with the slow speed grab. It could also be on the rear instead of the fronts.

Did you relplace the rotors? Sometimes new pads on an old rotor can produce this noise because the pads are new and not worn as a pad to the old rotors like the old ones.

Few things:
1. Are you absolutely certain that they changed all four rotors, brake pads and the caliper?
2. Can you verify that the brake lines were bled properly? And the fluid is topped up with mfg'd compliant brake fluid.
3. Double check to see that the condition codes are cleared.
4. Is there any discoloration in the brake fluid? (leak or contamination)

Your problem look like if there is still some air in the calipper cylinder.
I suggest you loosen the brake hose at the calliper and completely retract the piston.
Then thighen back the hose and perform a normal bleeding procedure of the front brake lines.

Dioes the calipper have any indentiontions? some calippers screw back into place where as some have to be squeezed back into place, also you have to remove the cap from the brake fluid bottle!!! while you are pushing the cylinder back into the calipper.

If its not going back at all then get some wd40 and spray all around the seal trying to get as much wd40 down the fine gap into the sleeve of the cylinder calipper lining. keep doing this and leave it over night use the whole can if you have to. if still no joy then the caliper is siezed and will need to be replaced. bear in mind some do screw counter and anti clockwise. I am not familiar with this model though.

Hi I am vortash .. check that the sensor lead is not damaged at the brake calliper and check that the brake pads havent worn down again ?,, If they have I would suspect that you have a stiff calipper cylinder that keeps pressure on the pads against the Disc or drum and it needs freeing off and smearing of copperite grease you may check this by driving a few miles then feel the back wheels if they are warm then the pads are rubbing ..( be careful that can get hot enough to take your skin off if you touch them , you should be able to smell the linings also if it is this problem .. hope this helps regards Vortash

you may have overtightened the retaining nut on the rotor holding the rotor on. try removing the wheel, remove the cotter pin and loosening the nut 1/4- 1/2 turn. when re-installing the wheel, recheck by spinning the tire. it should spin freely. over-tightening a wheel rotor can damage the bearing and cause it to overheat, even to the point of causing a fire.
