When I am giving gas to increase speed my 1992 SL1 automatic will **** and jump like it is running out of fuel. Once I get the speed increased it will settle down. This does not happen all the time.

Sounds like you need to replace the battery. However you may have another issue and that could be your alternator. If the alternator is not recharging your battery while the car is running, then a new battery is going to die as well.
Have the alternator and battery checked.
The battery may not be holding a charge.
The alternator may not be charging the battery,it should put out between 14 and 15 volts, any less the alternator is bad.
run the fault codes
could be a transmission actuator problem as it senses vacuum changes when moving the accelerator and tries to change ratios ( 2000 to 2500 rpm indicates a ratio change which is the speed increase momentarily until the Transmission range sensor puts it back in the correct ratio for the road speed
check the wiring to the transmission
it is a sensor problem not a transmission failing
