You need to move the steering wheel at the same time your trying to turn the key. If this don't work the problem is the ignition starter switch cylinder.

try to jiggle the steering wheel sometimes the key mechanism gets held up because the wheels are turned at an angle and are pressing against the key slot causing it to lock happens all the time with my car
To fix your problem, you have to turn the steering wheel either to the
left or right as much as you can, then try to turn the key in the
ignition. When the steering wheel locks, the key won't turn. By manually
holding the steering wheel out of the lock position, the key will turn
again and you're steering column will be back to normal.
the gear shifter may not be fully in park also sometimes if the steering wheel is jaming try to move steering wheel and check vehicle is fully in park is key stuck in the on position or can you turn off car or you just cant remove key
Make sure the gear selector is fully in park, alot of times if the cars wheel was turned when the vehicle is parked the steering wheel is locked in the turn position and it puts pressure on the ignition switch. Try turning the steering wheel slightly left/right and see if it kicks back. If it does you have tension on the ignition and need to hold it until the key is turned to the on position and it unlocks the ignition. If you can try to let the wheel come to a rest before turning off the ignition as opposed to holding the wheel turned and shutting off the ignition, this will avoid a locked wheel/column
Sometimes the steering wheel will put pressure on the switch from the steering lock. Try this: - insert the key that usually works - with your foot on the brake, make sure the shifter is fully in park - while turning the key, move the steering wheel left or right firmly
Have you parked the car with the wheels turned fully one way , or is the wheel hitting the kerb
If so you will need to rock the steering wheel from side to side as you turn the key so that you take the weight off the pin which locks the steering wheel
