Why does my 1999 dodge 2500 4x4 ping real bad after it has been warmed up for a while and seems to be burning alot of oil? I have tried using premium gas but this does not help at all. I am adding at least 1 quart of oil a month.

If you see blue smoke comning out of the tail pipe that means your engine is burning oil and there is no way to control that other then replacing the engine itself.

I have a 1999 Dodge Avenger V6 and the vehicle stopped running yesterday about 2-21/2 blocks from my house. When attempt to restart would not start, tried starting and sounded like it was going to a couple...

Jenifer, it sounds like the oil lines from the oil pump are clogged or the pump itself is defective. Please do not run the engine until you get it checked out. If the oil pump in the bottom pan is not pushing oil to the top of the engine the valves and cams are not being lubricated and will burn up...Bue, Bye engine!

Hi I traded a 92 Dodge Dakota with trans. problems for a 99 Ford Ranger that throws alot of smoke. Do you think it is the motor or cens. in the cat.

Your cat won't cause your vehicle to smoke, unless there is oil on it, then as the exhaust warms up, the cat will burn off the oil. Chances are, there is something wrong with your engine.

There are a few diagnostic steps you can make to see if you're burning oil, running rich, or have a leaking head gasket:

Check your plugs. If they've got oil or a filmy, soot-like deposit, you've got worn valve guide seals or worn rings, and you're burning oil, or you're running rich, indicative of other problems.

The exhaust "smoke" that you see, if it's like a white/gray cloud, could be steam from a leaking head gasket or water in the intake. If it's blue-ish, that's normally running rich. If it's black, you're probably burning oil.

I have a pre owned 99 cougar and it is using alot of oil, what do you suggest i can do to reslove this problem?

Are the spark plugs oil fouled? Is the oil leaking out or is it burning it? You could do a cylinder leakdown test, to determine if the rings are good. The valve guide seals could be bad. Anyway ,the future is not real positive for that engine ,if it uses oil. No amount of oil additives will correct it. You won't pass inspection.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L, 197000km/120000miles. The cat was plugged up with no engine power. It occasionally smoked upon ignition. It occasionally smoked out an oily soot from the exhaust. The cat...

The plenum problem should not affect compression tests. It allows oil to get sucked into the intake and will cause carbon buildup, plug fouling, and pinging. If you have zero compression on a cylinder, it is usually a valve problem. Even a burned piston will make some compression, unless it has a big hole in the middle.
Sorry, but if your compression results are to be trusted (and it seems they are), then you have to tear a head off to find the problem, or at least get a borescope in it.

My 99 Dodge Ram 1500 I just purchased high oil consumption

It could be burning and you don't notice. Remove air filter box assembly from top of intake manifold. Hold throttle wide open (engine off) and look through throttle body (flashlight may be required) and see if oil is puddled up inside manifold. If so then the intake manifold will need to be removed so the lower pan gasket can be replaced.
