I've been tuning cars since the 1956 + models to current...I have never heard of over or under gapping the pulg electrode...? It is critical to match the heat range, as well as the factory plug gap...Also, the factory plug usually works the best...your stock Lincoln plug should be the Ford Mototcraft platinum tip spark plug...available at part stores for less money than the dealer...Hope this helps.

The gap is about 25th i say about as some modern vehicles use a a high tension compared to older models ,having the gap a bit either side will not cause any problems as such but an excessive wide gap will cause hard starting from cold ,and too closer gap can cause a slight sort of hesitancy

Spark Plug Gap

For the six cyclinder is .044 and for the four cyclinder its the same . Some spark plugs maybe already pregap. Also before you gap the plugs, check under the hood and look at the vacuum diagram sticker or any other sticker under the hood. They somtimes display what gap is neccessay for the car. If you do find the info. and is different for what i gave you. Use the sticker info. Good Luck.

2000 lincoln town car executive series sparkplugs

Between the rocker cover and the fuel rail are the coils, one per cylinder hed in place by a smill 8mm bolt. Remove the coil and find the spark plug wire, the arrangement is called a coil-on-plug or COP. Spark plug is in the tube from whince the spark plug wire came. 5/8" deep socket and long extension will reach it. Another hint find some way to clean out the tube before removing the spark plug least all kinds of junk winds up in the cylinder.......SMith
