The trasmission in my 2005 Yukon XL has been slipping. I took it to the dealership and was told that I need a new transmission for $2600! And of course the warranty on the vehicle expired. I have 62,000 miles on the vehicle. I was just curious if any other Yukon owners have had this problem, and perhaps have a better (cheaper) fix for this problem.
I am having the same problem with a 2005 yukon xl.
I have a 2005 yukon xl and the transmission slips in 3rd and overdrive...very badly, it has never been abused or off road and has only 81000 miles. Yesterday it was fine and today it is sliping.
I purchased my 05 XL Denali in July of 07 w/50k on it. Bought it "Certified Pre-Owned" w/100,000 mile Bumper-bumper powertrain warranty. So, when my trans started dragging and not keeping up w/shifting from 2nd to 3rd, I took it in and was told that my battery needed to be replaced (for $150) because it didn't have enough "juice" to send info to the "computer" to keep the trans shifting correctly. Well, I replaced the battery ($80) and when that didn't work I took it back and they did some type of "computer code" upgrade. That fixed it!!--- temporarily. When it started again, I took it back AGAIN and was told that another upgrade had to be done. Now about 2 months later, the SAME problem is back but now it's doing it when it changes from/to every gear. Also, when it has down-shifted (when I've slowed to make a turn onto another road w/out completely stopping), it never shifts down far enough and has a THUD when it has to go to an even lower gear once I've taken off again. When I take my car in, they have to provide me w/something to drive - which is usually like a Pontiac G6 or a Grand Prix - a major pain in the a** - but I think that they're thinking that I'm just a woman wanting something to bi*** about and have NO idea about what's really going on w/my car...but I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to cars and it's really starting to tick me off. I guess I'll continue taking it in w/these problems until I reach my 100,000 mile limit to my warranty!! Needless to say, my Denali is back @ the dealership w/trans problems and I'm in a Grand Prix (grrrr) again - when they asked what it was doing "this time" - I said "just tell the mechanic to DRIVE it and he'll see!" maybe this will work!!
