You need to bleed the brakes, starting from the wheel that's the fartherest away from your master cylinder. if you opened a bleeder valve when you replaced the front brakes, you've let air into the whole brake system.you will need 2 people to bleed the air out of the brakes.1to pump the pedal up for pressure and you to release the pressure of air from the bleeder valves on each wheel.start from the wheel that's the fartherest away from the brake master cylinder. passenger rear wheel.have someone pump the brake pedal up [pump3times]and hold pressure on the brake pedal, you open bleeder valve on the wheel to let the air out,or until the brake pedal goes to the floorboard[never let the person who is pumping the brake pedal to take the pressure off the brake pedal until you've tightened the bleeder valve closed.or else, you're waisting your time. you may have to bleed each wheel twice,or until you see clear brake fluid come out with no bubbles or spurting from each wheel. after you're done with passenger rear wheel, move to driverside rear wheel, then go to passenger front, then drivers front, which is last.when you replaced the brakes, you made a common mistake, you opened the brake lines, which let air into the brake system.it's a very common mistake so don't feel bad.just go back and bleed the brake system.after you do this, you will not make the same mistake again,i guarantee it. thank you for choosing fixya.com and if you need further assistance, please repost your question to fixya.com i'm usually here at least 12 hours a day to assist people for free.that's just me thanks!

The gas and the brake peddle adjustment dont work on my 2003 town car

There is no real adjustment required. It sounds as though you either need brake fluid or you have air in the brake line(s). Check your fluid level and if there is fluid, the brakes have to be bled.

You can easily bleed your brakes with a one man brake bleed kit obtainable at your local auto parts store for no more than $10. It should take you no more than thirty minutes to bleed the front and rear lines.

I want to puul fuse for abs brakes.I broke the rear line and now I can't get any brake peddle.Loosened line where we hooked to brake and let it drain until fluid ran free.still no peddleWhen engine is...

these use by directional braking like the volvos have used for decades.that is the left rear brake works with the right front brake and right rear brake works with the left front brake.this is how the brake lines are connected to work for the braking system.so when you have a brake leak you will have to bleed the opposite brake to get the air out.this maybe your problem also if the abs system has air in it then it will have to be bleed of air.

I have just bought a 2001 sunfire coupe with the 2.2l 2200 motor when i drove it home i only had one front brake working.I changed the back to lines because they were getting bad.when i push on the brake...

bleed the furthest brake at first and work your wy up to the closest one which is the drivers front side. You may have air in the line inwhich the bleeding process must be done properly. If you still have no pedal bleed the master cylinder last
You can have a bad master cylinder too
Since you had just purchased this car you have no idea how it was taken care of I see so start from square one as stated above

2003 rav 4, just replaced front calipers and pads, after bleeding the line, peddle was spongie, bled all four lines, peddle still spongie, do I need the engine running to properly bleed the lines, and since...

I would bleed the rears too especially if the brake fluid reservoir drained empty. Also you may need to drive the vehicle to seat the brake pads. Check and see how the pedal feels initially before you road test to make sure you don't need to pump the brakes in order to stop. if you do then re bleed all four wheels. If you don't have to pump the pedal and it just feels spongy then try going around the block a few times and see if the pedal stiffens up after the pads have seated.

Brakes

There should be no need to bleed the brakes after installing new pads! It seems like you have pushed the brake peddle beyond its normal travel! This will cause the rubber parts inside the master cylinder to get torn from normal dirt that gathers. After changing pads, the peddle should be just gently pumped no more than half way down. Let me know how you make out! Frankster016
