I just got my light to go off, yesterday. Try honking the horn several times and see if the light turns off, could be gunked up a tad in there like mine was. A lot of people have this problem, but could be a multitude of things. Just hope that it's not the airbag module itself, it's big $.
What I would do, is take it to a mechanic that has a Tech II scanner or one that can communicate with the airbag module itself. It will tell you where the fault lies, just too many variables here. One being, if you had the steering disconnected from the rack and pinion, and turned the steering wheel more than 3 times, you'll rip the electrical ribbon in the clock spring. Clockspring is around $200, but there is a time consuming fix for it. Word of caution, do not connect a volt ohm meter to the airbag harness, there is a chance of deployment.
