RPM revs high and changes while in neutral

Check the air intake sensors, called MAF or MASS air flow. They have temp and baro devices in them.

I have a 2000 ford expidition. the truck will reach 45mph and the rpms will shoot past 4 and rev loud and hard, but won't go past 50mph. what can i do about that?

A possible solution, Sounds like you may have a clogged cataletic converter or converters have convertors checked at muffler shop and replace if clogged

I have a ford 2005 e250 van and when i hit about 35mph and will not shift into the next gear my rpms just redline. why

drive shaft or clutch is gone "missing a few teeth" which will not let you shift to a higher gear or possible your rev count is set to wrong your rev count needs to be set above one

I have a 2004 dodge stratus 2.7l next generation motor that has trouble starting but when it starts it idles smooth.Driving it the motor won't go past 2250 rpm.Change all but IAC sensor .Bought new...

sounds like to me the catalatic converter is plugged up, usually if you cant get an engine to rev anything over 2000 2500 rpms it has a breathing problem... its a real good possiblity its the converter causing your problem, especially if you had problems with another engine at any time, with like antifreeze issues, or fuel issues.. it goes strait to the exhaust and out the tail pipe.
hope this helps

2003 ford escape will not go pass 2ooo rpms and will not idle

Greetings:

My 2002 3.0 V6 Escape is doing EXACTLY the same thing.

In neutral, it wont rev past 2000 and sounds very throaty like its starving.

Last year I had to replace all three cats and an EGR valve. If its the cats again, I am junking the car.

What is so magic about the 2,000 RPM point? It makes me think that it is something electronic.

I have seen this exact same issue on several posts with no responses. If anybody has an idea PLEASE post it.

Thanks,

Robb

2004 jeep grand cherokee idling problem. Revs motor 200 to 500 rpms higher while driving.

I had the exact same problem on my 04 GC. I put some Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner in from Wal-Mart and it seemed to fix the problems right away. Let me know.

1991 ford laser sedan (five door) three speed

if you have the 3 speed 1.7 litre engine. you should be pulling 3100 rpms at 100km/h I have heard claims that people have had there's running @ approx. 2000 rpms with a different differential. If you have the 5 speed, it'll be slightly lower at 3000 rpms.
