Transmission not shifting from 1st. gear on a 1996 plymouth voyager

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drivetrain are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s)

1996 Plymouth voyager van newly rebuilt transmission put it in and it does not shift stuck in 1st gear does not shift all gears are there but upon acceleration it does not shift

On the transmission is the control module connected? From that point the connector on the transmission module follow it ,now is that harness junction connected(they should spit off) . If everything is connected with a scan tool they have to reset the index value, reset the tire do a transmission relearn and a battery quick disconnect. Before they can do all this you need to disconnect battery and put the terminal together, The old transmission adaptive strategy is still in the ECM,this is one of the challenges of voyagers rebuild and replace transmission Now you know why transmission shop dont want to do this work for voyagers

Where is the transmission module located on a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager eith the O/D trans. and 3.3L engine?

Transmission Control Module (TCM) is located on the passenger side fender behind the headlight. You will see the wire harness going to the silver TCM.

Will a 94 Dodge Caravan transmission fit in a 96 Plymouth Voyager

80 percent of the time the transmission problem is electrical. Pull the transmission dip stick and check the condition of the transmission fluid. If it's not burn and the transmission runs with out slipping but does not shift properly. Good chances are that it may be the Transmission control module (TCM) which is on the passenger side fender close to the headlight. Check the condition of the wire harness to the TCM, look for corrosion and try disconnection the TCM and see if there is any changes to the way the transmission performs. As for the transmission fitting, as long as the engine size are the same. the 3 liter and 3.3 liter use different transmission. Good luck and hope this helps.

Transmission Control Module

the modules are universal, they are not car specific, and yes it is located in your main fuse box under the hood, it is rectangular and says fuses on it..... the inside of the lid should tell you what is for what.
