Bad coolant w/ leaks from many places, overheated and shut off, heater doesnt blow heat anymore


After the engine has reached normal operating temperature, feel both heater hoses going into the firewall. Are both hot? If both are hot, it's probably the door or doors in the heater case not operating from the selector knob on the dash. If only one hose is hot, the coolant is not circulating through the heater core. Look for a water valve in the hoses that is shut. If no valve, crack open the cold line to see if you can start circulation through the core. If neither hose is hot, pull off the inlet to the heater core (it may come from the cylinder head area) and run the engine and check stream flow. It won't spurt out like a garden hose, it should flow out in a smooth even stream, maybe just enough pressure to push a steady stream. If no flow comes out, coolant is low, or there is a circulation problem in the engine, like a kinked hose, a weak water pump...
Does the radiator cap hold pressure in the cooling system?

Overheating


Couple of possibilities here. One is the heater core bypass valve that allows the coolant to flow to the heater core. Make sure that the vacuum tube has not come off of it. Should be under the hood just on top of the blower motor assembly. Let the engine get hot and check to see if the hoses going to the heater core are getting hot coolant flowing through them.

Does the air flow through the defroster, front vents, and floor vents when they are selected? If not, this can indicate a vacuum leak on the HVAC control panel or a failure of the switch.

I have a 1999 sierra 1500 4 w drive truck and my heat core blows only gold air. can anybody tell me what is the problem?


Before assuming the heater core is blown check the following.

1. Check coolant level while engine is cold.
2. Leave the radiator cap off and let the engine run. See if you can see the coolant circulate
when the engine is brought up to temperature.
3. Check the temperature gauge inside and note if the engine temp is correct.
4 Does the engine overheat?
5. Feel the heater hoses and check if they get hot.
6. Can you smell antifreeze inside the cab?

Heater won't put out hot air


Hello Pall.

There are a few things that will cause a no heat problem.

First of all, check the coolant level. If it is very low, the coolant will not flow through the heater core.

Next is the thermostat. If it sticks open the coolant will flow through the radiator all the time taking away all the heat developed in the engine.


If those check out OK, then check the two hoses that carry the coolant to the heater core.
Both should be hot to the touch and very close to the same temperature.
If one is cooler than the other there is a restriction in the heater core and it will need to be flushed out or replaced.

Next is to make sure the temperature control on the heater box is working.
This is controlled by the dial on the dash and activates a motor which moves a door in the heater box that controls hot/cold airflow. Sometimes the motors on these pickups would go open circuit and quit working.

Car overheated and lost all power. how do I get it to start?


ENGINE NOT GOING TO START IF GET TOO HOT FIRST THING I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT THATS WHEN THERMOSTAT OPEN UP AND TOP HOSE HOT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE CHECK BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND THE RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANTS FANS CHECK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES OR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS. CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE HEATER HOSES AROUND ENGINE BLOCK TO THE HEATER CORE HOSES. THERE IS A REASON CAR OVERHEAT.IF CAR OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING OUT COOLANT OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET.IF ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE SITTING DURING A LONG IDLING PERIOD.YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR FAULTY COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT TO SEE IF IT RUNS IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR. IF YES FAN MOTOR COULD HAVE FAULTY WIRE OR PCM FAILURE. CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.

have you check your heating element? heater fuse? heater relay switch? those mentioned if defective will result to same problem like you have... good day!

Heater takes to long to get hot and water is dripping form dashboaerd on passenger side i have a 2000 grand jeep cherokee


Sounds like one of two things are happening. Either the hose going to the heater core (on the engine side of the dash) is leaking causing coolant to spray into the passenger compartment or your heater core is leaking which is causing the dripping from the passenger side of the dash. This would also cause a loss of coolant in the engine which would cause the engine to overheat and not enough coolant to get to the heater core to supply heat to the passenger compartment. Check your coolant level (while engine is cold) and refill it with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water after you tighten the leaking hose or replace the heater core.Then start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. Again let it cool down and then top off the radiator with the 50/50 mix of coolant. Do not under any circumstances open the radiator cap while the engine is hot.

When heater is on smoke comes out of the vents


If it smells like antifreeze, your probably looking at a new heater core, just make sure you check hoses going into firewall from engine side to make sure it isn't a leak by end of hose, leaking down into that heater core area inside. If your coolant keeps going down, that's more than likely where it's going.Make sure you check coolant level .
