First make sure you can turn engine over with a socket and that it is not seized. Second if engine checks out fine does the starter just click with the ignition key? If it does perform what is called a voltage drop test on the starter cables. Connect a volt meter on each end of the cable you are testing you should read no more that a half a volt drop when loading the circuit. If cables check out fine pull the starter and have it bench tested at an auto parts store. But be carefull bench testing can show a starter is ok with out putting a load on it, if it still shows good on the bench you still may need to replace it. If you don't get a click with the key check for 12 volts at the starter connector unplugged, if no trace starter wire noting color code back through the starter safety switch back to the ignition switch.

My 2007 jeep patriot battery full charge starter solonoid just clicks

You probaably better make sure the engine actually spins, if it died while driving, the starter is not the issue. Put a socket on the crank bolt and see if you can move it

My 2003 chevytrailblazer motor did roll over but now it dont

Check Battery, if you try to charge or jump starter you may hear a click. If you're sure its a good charged battery then consider starter. Try to jump starter by passing switch, cross small wire to larger wire on starter (you may get sparks) (please be careful if you try this) this should make the starter spin & kick in turning the engine. If it only spins then its probably the starter solenoid. If this checks out then check ignition switch & harness connections. That's it..

It won't start: new battery, have lights, it just clicks when you turn the ignition switch

you mean it wont crank, it must crank to start.
1: bad starter system
2: weak battery even a new battery can be weak.
if you dont charge it first.
or if it starts ok then wont later, that means cars charge system failure.

can you jump start engine? with jumper cables.
that be a big clue there, proving starter works but battery was weak.
if the battery is fully charged.
you can hot wire the starter solenoid, (tiny terminal)
if car cranks now, the key start wire is failing.
A/T or M/T tranny? both use different path here....??????

if you cant hot wire it, then that means the stater is bad
the cables bad or the battery is not really connected.
or possible the engine is seized, can you hand turn over the engine at the front crank bolt (CW , facing rear, in neutral)
if not motor is seized.
some times even the starter and rig gear can be seized.
the starter can be bench tested. too.

1996 GMC SIERRA XC 4x4 wont even turn over

What is the voltage on the battery ? If it's not in the 13.5 volt range the battery is not charged.
What does the battery read when you try to crank ? It should be in the 10.5volt range.
Get a set of jumper cables. Hook them up correctly and see if it cranks. If it does - the battery is not fully charged or it's a bad battery.
A car battery can produce enough amps to light lights and other small stuff but not produce enough amps for the starter to turn over the engine.

Won't start. 2 fully charged batteries tried. Cleaned battery connections. Just clicks when turning key to "Start". Car stopped while driving. Towed home.

This sounds like a loose connection at the starter, Follow the positive battery cable down to the starter. Check the connection for being hot (rusty color). There are two large connections on the starter check both. If one or the other looks discolored the starter may be damaged. Be sure the engine is not locked up. Try to turn the engine by hand at the main crank bolt.

78 ford f150 I turn the key, i here the solenoid click and all power in truck is killed. i could wait a few minutes and disconnecdt the negative battery cable and the power would be back. After several...

Are you sure your battery is good and able to take and keep a full charge? The only thing in the start circuit that could cause a big drain on the battery is a shorted starter. But if you can send power and it cranks okay, I don't think you have a bad starter.

Is the ignition key on when you crank it and have no spark? Does your distributor rotor turn when the engine is cranking?

I would try a new solenoid. If it clicks it should send power on to the starter on the big cable. Make sure all battery and ground connections are clean and tight. If still a problem, buy a voltmeter and learn how to do voltage drop tests. This will help find bad connections.

My car is not ingaging to turn over

If it is just clicking, then the battery is too weak. Charge the battery or jumpstart.

If the battery is full charged and when you turn the key, the starter is just clicking again, possibly bad starter or bad battery cable ground. Check your grounds from the battery.

If it is a new starter and it is clicking like it won't engage, then it is not shimmed properly.

If you figure out what is wrong and need further help, please reply to this post with your questions.

Thanks! Oh, please post your engine size, year of car or truck and model. This helps A LOT!!!

I tried to start my 94Sunbird-I heard clicking for a few seconds & then nothing. Battery is good & it couldn't be jump started. How can I find out if it's the starter or something else? help?

one easy way is to have someone hold key in crank ing position, then another person needs to hit or tap the starer housing itself.if engine begins to crank intermittently or ur cliking noise turns into small jolts of the starter trying to crank then u can bet its the strtr motor. u do need a charged batt for this test. also chek ur battery grounds they can dramatically affect starter operation if we have a voltage drop anywhere in starter circuit .chek batt cables r tight on batt posts, loose batt cables on battery will also give u clicking noise w no starter operation

I have a93 f 150 when i hook the pos cable to the battery the starter spins but the battery pos sparks ty

tHE STARTER RELAY is shorted and is stuck in the crank mode. The battery cable sparks because of starter load Relay must be replaced ot at least checked for the two small wires being crossed. One of the small wires on the relay should have current only when key is in crank position.
Remove the two small wires and see if it still cranks when battery is hooked up. If so, replace relay. The + cable goes from battery to relay. Ned

My car dont star, i check my ligths and averything is ok, i listen under de motor a little click click i hit in the starter whit a screw

If ur getting a clicking noise when u attempt to start it sounds like the starter drive ingaging into the flywheel but the starter isn't turning. Check ur battery to make sure it is fully charged and get a load test to make sure it is ok. Next check the connettions to the battery. Ur Problem wasn't complete--if crossing terminals at the starter the engine turns over it is the starter soloid, if it just clicks it is the battery or connections
